Reflecting on WHĀRIKIx 2024: A Gathering of Minds, Wairua, and Aspirations 10/05/2024

THE WAIRUA OF WHĀRIKIX We had the absolute honour of attending this special day. Inspiration, pride and so much joy and celebration of Māori enterprise and spirit. The day was uniquely Māori; full of fun, whanaungatanga and beautiful stories of triumph and aroha.

An excerpt from this beautiful blog below.

Chook Henare from NZME captured the essence of WHĀRIKIx, saying, “From the time I arrived, I felt the wairua of the kaupapa.” She also highlighted the diverse and engaging lineup of kaikōrero who, despite their humility and humour, left a significant mark on even the most discerning of critics. The energy and seamless transitions provided by our MCs added to the vibrancy of the day, creating an atmosphere where every attendee felt both inspired and special.

Here at Jolt we are fortunate to work with talent like AJ Spence from Left Creative. This lovely little business-friendship is a match made in heaven. Basically AJ makes us look good; she brings our ideas to life, creating beautiful design and world class brands, at home in Wanaka New Zealand. 🫶

Her work is clean, simple, sophisticated and always, always, always on point. AJ offers fast, no fuss, design-magic. We love to cook up business names (the hardest part about starting a business) and then AJ brings them to life. 💣🧨🪄

She creates bold visual identities for ambitious small and medium businesses, and she aces it every time. Thank you for the good work AJ and making brand stuff even more fun.🏅🎯

The Wanaka Podcast was cooked up during the 2020 lockdown. Being fenced in seemed to crank creativity somehow. Our mission was to shine a light on people in business, to help other people in business, or people aspiring to be in business.

The kaupapa was inspired by the town’s name. Wanaka is thought to be derived from whare wānanga, or in the southern dialect, whare wānaka, meaning the perpetuation of knowledge. Sharing knowledge was the goal.

Once we were producing and promoting, the Poddy turned out to be an incredibly enjoyable project. Where we found joy surprised us. It was a treat to meet and talk to such a range of incredible people. Our little team had the pleasure of gathering each week to talk business, ideas and projects, with smart people. So, not the recording, but the conversations round the edges. This was gold.

Here’s what we learnt:

Collaboration gives you wings.

Especially in Wanaka. If you need help, just ask. If you have an idea, get people on board. Try stuff; it’s fun, people will help you.

Rub shoulders with good people.

To paraphrase Tim Ferriss, you are the average of the people you surround yourself with. Wanaka folk, you are blessed to be surrounded by innovators, ambition, drive and character. Get amongst it.

Everyone has a story

We had an endless supply of people we could have interviewed. A variety of hosts meant we reached different networks, people, stories and industries. Common themes came through about the challenges of business. These stories have many hidden gems; there is business advice galore in these episodes. Enjoy!

So, it’s a wrap. We have tied a bow on it and called it done. Lots of people came together to make this content; thank you to everyone who worked on this project.

Lastly, Wanaka you’ve got a good thing going on. The environment is perfect for cooking up that next big thing, or little thing, or basically any thing.

We are looking forward to seeing what projects come out of this lockdown. I am talking to you Jess Eastwood Mindchat.

Nga mihi nui.

Thumbs Up for Guards Down - Jolt Marketing 28/08/2021

We were recently asked by Otago Polytechnic, Te Kura Matatini ki Otago, to put together the creative for an awareness campaign focused on safety on the building site. Film work is not our usual mode of creativity, but together with Josh and Josh at Reframed Media, we put together this edit.

The video formed the basis for a digital campaign that included a website, and a YouTube and social media campaign.

Lots of laughs were had creating this public service announcement. Thanks for the project OP, thanks for the collab Reframed Media. It was a pleasure doing business alongside ya!
