The Green & Blacks Story

GREEN & BLACK’S was founded on the principle of creating a chocolate that not only appeals to people’s tastebuds, but to their consciences as well. This was achieved through ‘The Power of &', which is when ethically sourced cocoa meets pure indulgence to create a chocolate like no other. It’s what makes us ethical & indulgent. Conscious & crafted. It’s what brings GREEN & BLACK’S together.

GREEN & BLACK’S originated in London by husband and wife, Craig Sams and Jo Farley. Jo was inspired when she first tasted real, organic chocolate in 1991, after discovering a sample on Craig’s desk. They created the first ever 70% cocoa chocolate bar in the UK and became organic and sustainability pioneers in 1994 as the first chocolate brand in the UK to display the Fairtrade mark on the pack. Today, GREEN & BLACK’S continues this legacy, crafting ethically-sourced cocoa into indulgent chocolate that doesn’t compromise on taste.

At GREEN & BLACK’S, we ensure that only the finest things go into our chocolate. That includes the ingredients we use, as well as the people that make our chocolate. Our chocolatiers skillfully craft delicious new recipes and take pride in ensuring every batch of chocolate they make is of the highest quality.

COCOA LIFE

GREEN & BLACK’S is committed to creating pure, indulgent chocolate with ethically sourced cocoa.

The cocoa used in our Smooth chocolate range is sourced through Cocoa Life and the cocoa used in our Organic range is certified as adhering to Fairtrade standards.

Cocoa Life was launched in 2012 to help strengthen cocoa communities, inspire the next generation of cocoa farmers and support a strong cocoa supply chain, Cocoa Life is a holistic cocoa sustainability program that strives to create a sustainable future for cocoa farmers in our cocoa growing source countries.

We want to ensure a thriving and sustainable cocoa farming industry into the future. That’s why we are investing $400 million USD by 2022 to empower at least 200,000 cocoa farmers and reach 1,000,000 community members.

Through Cocoa Life, we partner with NGOs including Fairtrade, Save the Children and World Vision in communities that supply cocoa for GREEN & BLACK’S chocolate to deliver social and environmental change. We support farmers and grow communities by providing training, improving agricultural practices and investing in those things communities tell us they need such as education, medical services and access to clean water.

It’s all part of our commitment to ensure a sustainable future for chocolate.
