Today we welcomed our new Whānau to our school with a Pōwhiri. The kapa haka did a great job and the singing was excellent :)
Happy Holiday!
See you all back on Monday 22nd July for the start of Term 3! Stay safe and take care.
Mānawatia a Matariki e whānau!
We have really enjoyed celebrating Matariki at our kura this week, and especially with our performances and shared lunch today. Our Kapa Haka groups and Manu Matauranga really shone on stage, and now our stars are shining in the Te Whau windows! Our creations were guided by the whetū, Pōhutukawa and Hiwa-i-te-rangi. On one side we spent time remembering people who have passed, and on the other we shared our hopes for the future. Make sure you take a look when you come into school!
Ngā mihi nui to all the whānau who were able to come. We know you were all so proud of the wonderful performance our tamariki put on for us.
Have a great long weekend everyone. We hope you enjoy celebrating and remembering with your whānau.
Interschool Cross Country today
It was great to see our cross country runners competing in the interschool event today at Blockhouse Bay Recreational Reserve. There is always tough competition and we are very proud of all our runners who demonstrated determination and perseverance. We had many runners place in the top ten across many ages groups. Interschool results will be published in the next newsletter in a couple of weeks. Well done everyone!
Thank you to all of the parents that supported today and helped with marshalling and walking. It was lovely to see you all there!

Each term we hold a whakatau to welcome new students, whānau and staff to our school. Good job Dejanae for doing the karanga to welcome the manuhiri on to our school. There were speeches and waiata and now we are a new, bigger, whānau group. Welcome to the family!
Mānawatia a Matariki! We had a lovely ceremony before dawn this morning to celebrate Matariki (the Māori New Year). We started stargazing, Matua Jarrod lead us in a waerea and some children said a karakia for each of the stars. We then moved into Te Whau for breakfast and were treated to performances by the Kapa Haka groups. So nice to see so many whānau at this community event and to celebrate together - the last time we did this was 2019. Huge thanks to Whaea Nicky and Mrs Crisp for all the organisation.
We have been learning about Cultures of the World and we had an expo yesterday to celebrate. HUGE thanks to all our whānau who came along. The kids were really proud of what they shared with you :)
Talofa!
We have had a fantastic week celebrating Samoan culture. Some children tried delicious chop suey, keke and o'tai, some children dressed up in lavalava, we had our Pasifika Fono and we finished the week with Moana. Huge thank you to our Pasifika Leadership group who planned all the fun activities and to all our agia who helped out.
Fa'afetai!
Today we celebrated pink shirt day by wearing pink clothes and having a parade. Everyone looked fantastic! We discussed what it means to show kindness and manaakitanga and how to be an upstander.
A superb day for our Cross Country today! Well done to all our tamariki for trying their best! It was a tough course, but you did so well. Thanks to all our teachers and parents for your support today.
Archery in the woods.
Ka tae mai he manu pī, ka p**a he manu rere - Arrive a fledgling, leave soaring - Our Story
Blockhouse Bay students, represented by the Tui in our logo, come to our school to learn through a wealth of opportunities and experiences.
The students bring their unique identity which is recognised, affirmed, and nourished by our school community, before soaring off to their next school and beyond. The three feathers or koru on the wing of the Tui represent the school’s vision ‘We Seek, We Strive, We Soar.’
Our school, represented by the tree in our logo, is built at the top of the slopes leading from the Manukau Harbour. The school provides a secure, inclusive and rich environment for learning. The hill represents the wider Blockhouse Bay Community which provides the sure foundations, rich history and traditions on which our school was established and continues to flourish.
