Rosen Method Bodywork with Oxana Arefin
Rosen Method Bodywork - somatic therapy that addresses muscle tension as the physical manifestation of long held attitudes and emotional blockages.
During my time in NZ I have received calls and messages from people in Australia asking for Rosen sessions. There was a Rosen school and practitioners in Australia a few years ago. But from the messages there were not enough practitioners. I am really hoping to find Rosen colleagues in Brisbane and have Rosen sessions myself. But while I am looking for them, it is already possible to have a Rosen session in my new office in South Rochdale.

A small piece of an interview about Hans Axelson's first Rosen Session.
Hans Axelson - creator and leader of the Swedish Axelson Institute - the largest and oldest school of massage and body therapy in Scandinavia.
Sometimes the sessions are very verbose and emotional. Sometimes they are very quiet, and sometimes they look like a trance... When thoughts and emotions leave, consciousness comes to a new rhythm. Awareness of the present.
Eckhart Tolle - I sometimes ask people, “Can you be aware of your own presence? Not the thoughts that you’re having, not the emotions that you’re having, but the very presence of your being? You become aware of your own presence be sensing the entire energy field in your body that is alive.
And that is the totality of your presence.
Marion Rosen April 1991 Interview "Talking with Marion" interview by Paula Kimbro
A few phrases Marion Rosen from her book “Rosen Method Bodywork”
What is Rosen Method?
Rosen Method is not psychotherapy or physical therapy even though people often recover from physical and emotional ailments because of it. Rosen Method addresses itself to another part of the human being. Practitioners do have an agenda for patients, and that is for them to access a new dimension in their lives that can pursue and develop.
When I first started working with people, I was excited if patients accessed their sadness. Then other people came to me and found their joy and laughter, so many awareness has expanded to helping patients access whatever they have suppressed. And this varies from individual to individual.

With great gratitude I post this review on my page...
When I was 10 y.o., I had an experience which transformed me and my life. My father died in front my eyes. Since then, pain, fear and mistrust became a part of me. I did not notice it, but it interrupted my ability fully live my live, I was not able to make the right choices, establish relationships with people, deal with problems and accept myself for all my advantages and disadvantages.
By the age of 50 my entire internal recourse was exhausted. But I did not want to give up, I was looking for people and methods that were able to help me. One of them was the Rosen Method. It helped me to remember to my surprise, that haughty, fun, restless girl, which I was before the dramatic experience. So many years this girl was in deep oblivion on the periphery of my mind. I remembered how to accept myself without any reservations, to wake up in the morning looking forward to an adventure and to be a part of life. This experience was very valuable for work with myself.
When I think about Rosen Method I am always surprised how deep and diverse it can be. Every session is unpredictable. At times, the session may be very bright and emotional, and sometimes realy calm and quiet.
I always feel connection with the unconscious, I feel when something changes, but what it is means the client may discover some time later.
From time to time I ask clients to describe their session, because it was an important discovery for them. Perhaps this testimonies can help other people discover what this unique experience can potentially bring to them.
"The session was a new experience for me. During the session I felt how many tears there were inside. I could not talk about this with anybody. A very careful touch made me feel fully supported and accepted. It helped me to relax and gave me new understanding of myself and hope for the future."
Hello
My name is Oxana Arefin. About 25 years ago I came across this practice and became a Rosen Method student. Eventually I became a certified Rosen Method Practitioner and have been working as one and admiring this method ever since. I am happy I can bring it to New Zealand now.
Rosen Method Bodywork (RMB) was created by German-born physiotherapist Marion Rosen. After decades of her practice, she founded Rosen Institute in Berkeley, USA in 1983. Today, there are Rosen centers and schools in 23 countries.
What is RMB?
The Rosen Method Bodywork is a somatic therapy that combines gentle touch and reflective talk. RMB is based on recognition that our past traumatic and difficult experiences remain at unconscious level and are manifesting in ongoing body muscle tension. This often leads to physical pain and discomfort and can sometimes trigger various illnesses related to body imbalance and restricted flow or breath and energy through the body.
Marion Rosen used to describe the RMB as a way to access feelings and past experiences through the body. The body does not lie. Through breath and musculature, the body tells the truth about our feelings. Therapist’s goal is to find tension, to help the client become aware of sensations and emotions linked to tension; to support the process of emotional and mental discovery which can lead to deeper connection with the self and gaining strength and integrity.
How does it look like?
A Rosen Method session looks like massage. Client is lying on a massage table covered with a sheet, undressed to their comfort level. The therapist talks to the client and uses soft listening touch. Sessions last 50-60 minutes and are usually recommended weekly or fortnightly.
Who is this for?
RMB is recommended for those stressed at work, e.g. managers, public figures, social workers; those in difficult periods of life, immigrants, refugees, in challenged relationships or creative stagnation. RMB is known to help with chronic pain, depression, burnout, digestive issues (non-diet related), postural habits, frequent headaches. RMB is also recommended for personal development and well-being improvement.
