Vote for tertiary education
We’re live from the Hunter Lounge at Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University, to talk with key politicians about what our sector needs from the next government, on our unified day of action.

We have to talk about how little we invest in education as a country. Tune into our Facebook live stream at 11:30 to hear more!

Our uni branch presidents are together for a hui in Te Whanganui-a-Tara today. They wanted to take a few moments to send a message of solidarity to National Tertiary Education Union - NTEU members at Curtin Uni, currently in a tough struggle featuring former Otago VC Harlene Hayne. For our Aussie comrades, Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi is a waiata (song) that speaks to unity, standing together and supporting each other. Check out this amazing solidarity chant in support of our struggle here in Aotearoa from Student Researchers United-UAW members at University of California, who are in the midst of their own tough dispute. Tū kotahi, tū kaha!

WE SAY NO TO 2% - PASTORAL VIEWS DON’T PAY THE RENT!

#whatsocietythinksido - Dani Pickering
Dani Pickering is a tutor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington and they love the one-on-one time they get with their students. But Dani, as many other tutors, faces a dilemma when students come to them during difficult times. Tutors are not obligated to provide pastoral care, but they are often the ones students reach out to. For Dani, it’s a constant struggle between moral obligations and policy obligations. They urge the need for better systems in place that will help tutors to be recognized and supported for the care they are expected to provide. #protectoureducationforfuturegenerations #whatsocietythinksido #whatiactuallydo #fairpay #equality #pastoralcare #tertiaryeducation #highereducation #teu

University staff work over and above what they are paid to do. They provide pastoral care, work after hours and continuously upskill – often without job certainty.
