GPDC supplies electricity and water to Oman Power and Water Purchase Co. SAOC (“PWP”) which is resold to the Distribution and Supply Companies connected to the main grid and Ministry of Housing, Electricity and Water (“MHEW”) respectively. GPDCO has only one customer PWP, Power and Water Purchase Company, and Muscat City residents are the final Water customer, Northern Oman residents are the final Power customer. On 1 May 2005, the Government of the Sultanate of Oman concluded the unbundling of Ministry of Housing, Electricity and Water (“MHEW”). The sector restructuring has resulted in the creation of nine new entities comprising of one holding company, 4 Power generation companies, 3 distribution Companies, one transmission company and one power Purchase Company. GPDC was established on 1st of May 2005 and under the transfer scheme assumed the ownership and responsibility of the power and water generation assets located at Ghubrah.
