New nomenclature SLD 2023 CONSENSO DELPHY ESTEATOSIS HEPÁTICA 🏥🧑‍⚕️✌️ MASLD

New nomenclature and diagnostic criteria for fatty liver disease agreed by global consensus

The term "steatotic liver disease" was chosen to encompass various causes of steatosis, while the name chosen to replace NAFLD was "metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease" (MASLD). The diagnostic criteria were also updated to include the presence of at least one of five cardiometabolic risk factors. Additionally, a new category called "metabolic and alcohol-related/associated liver disease (MetALD)" was introduced for individuals with MASLD who consume higher amounts of alcohol.

The new nomenclature and criteria are considered non-stigmatizing and have widespread support, with potential benefits for awareness and patient identification.
