Peru is famous for many things, but surely not for its cheese, which plays an important role in the Peruvian cuisine. And while the country, because of many, especially (infra)structural causes, has a weakly developed dairy and cheese industry, Peru produces around 50 different cheese varieties and has some fine artisanal cheesemakers producing delicious and unique, truly Peruvian cheeses that over the past years won numerous awards in international cheese contests.
The main cheese making regions in Peru include Cajamarca in northern Peru, Puno and Arequipa in the south, Lima, and other regions mainly in the Andean highlands such as Ancash, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Junín, Moquegua, Pasco, and Piura.

Happy Birthday – Feliz Cumpleaños – LimaEasy!
On the 20th of October 2006 we published the first pages of LimaEasy marking its todays 15th birthday. As a true “Miraflores” child, LimaEasy grew up in one of the most vibrant districts of Lima surrounded by the Artisan Markets on Avenida Petit Thouars and has developed to something we never expected (something most “parents” experience when looking at their “children”). We are looking forward to see where the journey with LimaEasy will take us…
Glimpses of Peru. A lovely travel documentary from 1937. Presented by James A. Fitzpatrick as part of the series “TravelTalks – The Voice of the Globe”. We just had to share this…

LimaEasy is back home!
In 2006 we created LimaEasy just a few months after arriving in the Peruvian capital in a time when there was not much detailed and especially up-to-date info in English about the city around. Within the following 8 years we made LimaEasy with lots of love and passion a household name and tremendous success with tourists, foreigners living in Peru, fellow entrepreneurs and everyone interested in Lima and Peru.
As we had to move abroad for job-related reasons, we decided with a heavy heart to sell our “baby” in 2014 trusting that the new owners would be as enthusiastic about and dedicated to LimaEasy as we were and would not only continue our beloved project in our sense, but as well develop it further. Unfortunately, this did not happen.
From afar we had to watch LimaEasy not changing, not being technically modernized, not being updated. Instead of growing and appearing in new splendor what we hoped for and were promised when we sold the website, LimaEasy seemed forgotten with no one caring and as the years went by on a downhill track.
But sometimes life goes strange ways and brought LimaEasy back home to us. So here we are, the original founders and now new owners of LimaEasy.com
Over the last few days – yes, we are talking only about days – we worked nonstop to at least get LimaEasy technically running, implement a modern design (don’t worry, some characteristic features will return soon) and put it online again. However, lots is still missing, some features don’t work or aren’t perfect, many pictures might not be there, and the content is not updated yet.
Please, for now bear with us, we still have a long way ahead, but as nearly 15 years ago when we started the project, we are dedicated to improve LimaEasy and share our love and passion for Peru and Lima the way we used to.

Maranga – 2000 Years of Shared Stories
A new Exhibition at Parque de las Leyendas about pre-Hispanic Life in Lima
The Parque de las Leyendas not only houses Lima's zoo, a botanical garden and recreation areas; actually here you find 54 archaeological monuments of Lima's most extensive ancient city. The pre-Hispanic town of Maranga was continuously occupied by different cultures for over 2000 years and contained impressive buildings, numerous pyramids, palaces, temples and administrative centers. Also an ancient wall, roads, residential areas, water reservoirs and irrigation channels were part of the complex.
10 years of extensive archaeological excavations at the "Legends Park" with countless unearthed artifacts left the archaeologists with a better understanding of the lifestyle and traditions of Maranga's ancient inhabitants. To show the amazing results of the intensive research done and promote the cultural heritage of Peru's pre-Hispanic cultures, the Parque de las Leyendas presents the exhibition "Maranga – 2000 years of shared stories"…

Taxi Apps in Lima
Get a Safe Taxi easily with your Smartphone or Tablet
While taking a taxi is easy and affordable in Lima, uncertainties in particular about safety and security are ever present. Especially foreign visitors often feel uncomfortable just flagging down a cab on the street or call a safe taxi with limited Spanish knowledge.
But if you are travelling with your smartphone or tablet there is a quick and simple way to get a safe taxi within a few minutes; including fixed prices (that are only a few Soles higher than the ones from taxis hailed on the street), responsible drivers, modern vehicles, GPS surveillance and payment in cash and with PayPal or credit card... a great option giving any traveller peace of mind getting around Lima. At the moment 8 taxi companies (Peruvian as well as international) in Lima offer their service to clients via an app.

More Safety for Tourists in Lima
The "Preferential Tourism Corridor" from Lima's Airport to your Accommodation
Unfortunately attacks on taxis and robberies on the way from Lima's airport to the hotels in San Isidro, Miraflores and Barranco aren't unheard of. To tackle this problem and guarantee more safety and security for tourists visiting Lima, the new "Preferential Tourism Corridor" (Corredor turistico preferencial) from the airport to the main tourist districts and back was inaugurated.
The joint venture of the national police PNP, the municipal police forces of the involved districts called Serenazgo and the Tourism Police ensures that visitors arriving at or leaving from Lima's international airport Jorge Chavez can feel safe in Lima. The route from the airport to the tourism districts along Av. Faucett, Av. La Marina, Av. Pershing, Av. Javier Prado Oeste, Av. Paseo de la Republica and Av. Benavides is constantly monitored with numerous security cameras along the way and high tech equipment at the Tourism Police's headquarter. Additionally 14 new 4x4 Pick-ups of the Tourism Police painted green and white and vehicles of the national and municipal patrol the route 24/7.
In case of an emergency tourists from now on can call the toll-free telephone number 0800 – 22221 from their cellphone to get in contact with the Tourism Police where bilingual officers assist you 24/7. Additional a new Tourism Police Peru app is available that can be downloaded with any mobile operating system or the QR code on the information banners at the airport to any smartphone or tablet.
And finally after many delays a new Tourism Police office was inaugurated at Lima's airport that not any helps and assists tourists in case of need but also informs about common scams.
Stay safe and enjoy your stay!

Wealth and Pride Coins - Huaca de la Luna
The 17th coin of the Peruvian Wealth & Pride series has been put into circulation on the 6th of August 2014. The front shows a characteristic, beautifully decorated wall of the Temple of the Moon (Huaca de la Luna) built by the Moche culture in northern Peru. The temple belongs to the archaeological site of "The Temple of the Sun and of the Moon" (Huaca del Sol y de la Luna) located close to Trujillo.
The complex is believed to have been the most important urban and ceremonial center of the Moche culture. While the impressive Temple of the Sun was the largest adobe structure in the Americas (unfortunately today only about 30% of the original stucture is preserved), the smaller Temple of the Moon impresses with its beautiful architecture of three platforms, various plazas and large ceremonial spaces that were built over centuries. Stunning as well are the mural paintings.

But the highlight of the exhibition are two historical invaluable pieces that are displayed for the first time: the 1st Peruvian National Flag which was produced by two ladies in Peru's northern Piura and used by José de San Martin during the declaration of Peru's independence in 1821 and an original letter from 1863 written by José Bernardo Alcedo which contains details about the composition of Peru's National Anthem.
The place, where these pieces are exhibited, is a piece of the exhibition itself: the beautiful San Pedro building, part of the BCP's main office in the center of Lima was constructed in 1929 by the architect Ricardo Malachowski.

Restauration of the Bridge of Sighs “Puente de los Suspiros” in Barranco
On the 18th of June the district of Barranco started with restoration works on the Bridge of Sighs. Due to this restauration the bridge will be closed to the public for 90 days. The works include the replacement of damaged wood segments with imported pine wood from Oregon, treatment against the high humidity and the installation of new LED illumination.
The "Bridge of Sighs" is the district's landmark. It was inaugurated on the 14th of February 1876. Since then the wooden bridge withstood the War of the Pacific and earthquakes, but had to be repaired several times and was cut down in the middle of the 20th century to its actual length of 31 m. As it always was, young couples meet at this romantic place in Barranco. Tradition says that the one, who makes a wish and then crosses the bridge for the first time without taking a breath, will have his wish fulfilled. The great Peruvian chansonière Chabuca Granda honored the “Puente de los Suspíros” by dedicating one of her songs to her.
Fair of Peruvian Chocolatiers – Chocoferia (Barranco)
Taste Peru's best cacao and chocolate products
Cacao is part of Peru since ancient times. It was a fundamental element in previous cultures and their rituals. But just in recent years Peru's high quality cacao beans became popular and acknowledged around the world for their exquisite, unique aroma and high fat content.
To promote Peruvian cacao and chocolate the "Feria de Chocolateros" or in short "Chocoferia" takes place at the main square, the Plaza Municpial, in Barranco this weekend from Friday, June 13th to Sunday, June 15th from 11.00 am onwards. Next to music, folkloric dances and a parade, Peruvian chocolatiers demonstrate the fine arts of chocolate making. And most important: at the 35 stands chocolate products can not only be admired and tasted, no there these little temptations are also on sale.

Since 2006 Peru celebrates the Día de la Canción Andina (the Day of the Andean Song or probably better the Day of Andean Music) each year on the 15th of June.
To mark this day the municipality of Lima organizes a big concert with musicians from the different Andean regions of Peru. Participating are Los Príncipes del Perú, La Princesita de Yungay, Conjunto Condemayta de Acomayo, William Luna, Dina Páucar, Amanda Portales and Rosita de Espinar. La Paz in Miraflores promoted their activities for National Potato Day with showcasing different native Peruvian potatoes and offering delicious nibbles made of the tuber to passers-by.
Festivals of the Peruvian Potato this weekend
Celebrations also include smaller and bigger expositions, parades and festivals. The 5th Festival of the Native Potato (V Festival de la Papa Nativa 2014) at Lima's Parque de la Exposicion is held from Friday 30th of May until Sunday 1st of June. The festival brings together potato growers from the Andean highlands, restaurants including well knows chefs, culinary schools and shops all contributing to spread and promote the Peruvian culinary heritage. The three days gastronomic festival includes a native potato market, a potato-based food and beverage contests and lots of great Peruvian dishes made with the famous tuber.
