In 1982, when late Steve Lahui was left alone by his band to record a new album, he called upon the Dejays band members to assist him. Only the drummer, Ross Temu was available with Dejays band members, David and Dokona Manoka, Dika Dai and John Mase.
Dejays band had done a demo cassette for screening at NBC Cassettes and were still awaiting their response since 1981and that call came unexpectedly from late Steve Lahui.
We never anticipated a positive outcome through our participation with Memehusa which would help us sign a recording contract with CHM Supersound Studios.
Late Tom Sinari, one of the sound engineer during those days introduced the band to Mr Raymond Chin, owner and MD of Chin H Meen & Sons, who approved and we signed an 11 album contract with CHM.
The 1982 Memehusa Company album was titled "Mani Siga" which includes a couple of cover songs. Late Steve Lahui asked me to sing a popular Five Stars song titled " I was a fool or Fa'amangalo" which is the last song on Side B of the cassette album.
Thank you so much Memehusa Company and especially late Steve Lahui for giving us an opportunity to showcase our musical talents through our participation in your recording.
Our engagement with him did not end there. There were so many other gigs where he jammed with us in POM and around the country.
One of trips I always have in mind is the first Dejays band request to perform in Popondetta in 1984. As I had prearranged my weekend trip to Kupiano, I had to bring in a replacement for me. So the only person I could think of was late Steve Lahui. I had less than 6 hours to find him and tell him to make his way to the airport and join the rest of the band.I finally found him at the Central Provincial Government Headquarters at Konedobu. As I told him not waste time, he rushed to the airport in time and left for Popondetta. He came complaining to me that he didn't take any clothes to change.
So long my brother, until that glorious day when we meet in Paradise.
A week of travel throughout the Rigo District to Kalo, Saroakeina, Matairuka,Sivitatana and Kamali village with the Dejays Band featuring the Itana Melo Band of Babaka village.
These 3, posing with myself and Dika Dai namely Leslie Loa, Kini Micah Rei and Patrick Rarua are all multi talented musicians.
Leslie joined the band in 2013, Kini was a part-time drummer until he became a full time drummer 2 or 3 years ago as well new talent Patrick.
They have vowed to stay with the band despite being used as part-timers by other groups.
While we're working on 2 singles to upload on a new streaming app, i.e, mJam, which is likely to be launched very soon, we hope that this should be stepping stone for them on the big stage.
Myself and Dika are proud to engage these 3 talented musicians.
