How to register a Small Medium Enterprise (SME) with IPA, IRC and open your SME bank account.
If you have a visa card, go to the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) website (https://www.ipa.gov.pg/) and create your own IPA account. Otherwise, if you engage an agent, you need to provide the following information.
1. Proposed two different business names.
2. Business address, business location address and email address
3. Owner(s) information and address.
4. Business activity.
The IPA fee applicable is K150.00. It takes less than half an hour to get your business name registered by IPA via your email 📨.
TIN Registration with IRC
5. After registering your business name with IPA, go to the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) website (https://irc.gov.pg/pages/know-your-taxes/tin-registration) and download TIN 2 form and fill out the necessary information. If there is more than one owner, you have to fill the TIN 2 for all the owners.
6. Attached your business name certificate and certificate of Good Standing together with your current ID(s) (NID, driver’s license, passport etc.) and lodge with IRC. If you have the personal ID or work ID, you need to provide a State Dec to accompany your ID.
7. Wait for two weeks and go collect your TIN certificate at IRC.
8. After receiving your certificates, prepare a business profile (not more than 5 pages), now you can go to the bank and open your business account.

Today’s (Saturday 18/11/23) Weekend Online Training Sessions (HT) ended on a high note with new participants joining us from across the country.
We covered topics on Bitcoin as a method of payment. Bitcoin has two distinctive use cases, and they are: 1 – Method of Payment, 2 – Store of Value.
In this series of weekend online training sessions, we talk about Blockchain Technology, Crypto Assets and Bitcoin Economics. Next weekend we will talk about bitcoin as a store of value. Before you trade or invest, you need to know what bitcoin is, why bitcoin and how it works.
PNG Central bank admits it does not regulate cryptocurrency and yes when the bank doesn’t regulate it, commercial banks think bitcoin is a scam. They are telling you it’s a scam. But what they are not telling you how it works and why some banks, financial institutes, governments and companies accept bitcoin.
Countries around the world that openly accept bitcoin are: El Salvador, United States, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and more on the list. BPNG or commercial banks do not have an explanation for this if they wanted to deny and ban it. In Australia, the centralized does not regulate but it’s used as method of payment. It has BTC ATMs all-over the country.
In the online training sessions that we go through every weekend, you can find out why the banks and some corrupt governments around the world don’t accept bitcoin.

GoPNG seeking for ICT service providers
PNG Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is calling for Request for Information (RFI) on various critical Digital Government Services during the Innovation PNG 2023 Conference, and calls on relevant businesses and solution providers to respond.
ICT businesses and service providers to reach out to the department to know more about the RFI, and to submit your interest to contribute to establishing a Digital Government.
Any procurement that may arise from these RFI will be subject to separate solicitations, adhering to the public sector procurement best practices, including transparency, fairness, and competitiveness.
Both national and international Service Providers are invited to participate in the RFI.

BREAKING CRYPTO NEWS:
Binance lost $12.5 million crypto assets on abduction and forcefully transferred.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) shared a story of how the crypto exchange froze stolen funds on social media platform X Friday.
Noting that the event was real, he explained that executives of a Binance client were abducted while on a business trip in Montenegro.
Emphasizing that they were forced to empty their crypto wallets, CZ said the executives suffered a total loss of about $12.5 million.
Zhao detailed that Binance investigated the on-chain activities of the crypto transactions and reached out to its partners to freeze the wallet with stolen funds.
He revealed that all the funds were taken in tether (USDT) and transferred to a Tron wallet.
According to CZ, Binance managed to freeze about $11.8 million, or 94.4%, of the $12.5 million stolen.

BSP customer services needs improvement..
The banking sector in PNG's customer service is NOT to the standard, BSP senior management knows about it and yet don't act to address it.
This is the kind customer service you get from one of the leading financial institutions in the country. The very institution that declares massive revenue annually. Millions and millions of people have their accounts with them.
This guy in the video who was suppose to help with opening new account set up his table outside the bank.
While the poor clients were queuing up, he quietly walks off and disappears in thin air without telling long queue of clients anything.
After 20 minutes goes by and no sign of him and the line extends exponentially. Someone went inside the bank and over to the counter and asked the nice teller and demanded to speak with the manager so we could get some form of explanation as to when he was coming out to serve us.
He pops out of no way and then starts yelling at the customer. That exchange of words was captured in the short video below.
BSP customer service has a long way to go. BSP have all the resources to train their employees on proper customer service etiquette. At least the very basics.
Unfortunately, clients have to wait for another hour and a half (pass noon) in the burning heat of the sun. There is serious when he angrily said“ I will serve you guys in 3 hours time “.
We love our country and love where we come from and the province but such actions are so discouraging.
One of the most treasured asset some us have is our integrity and we cannot throw that away.
One may had the money and the connection to go through short cuts but what about others on the long queue days after days, just like the rest of the ordinary people.
We hope BSP will have a look at this and improve its customer service. We love to bank with BSP.

Student Entrepreneurs at PNG universities..
Can the PNG Govt provide some special grants/loans for student entrepreneurs every year from various streams to apply when graduating? So students can not only graduate with a degree but also with a registered business concept with IPA ready to start.
Niugini Wave Limited is a very good example of student entrepreneurs to start their own business when graduating than looking for jobs after graduation.
NIUGINI WAVE Limited is comprised of five final year undergraduate chemistry students from the School of Natural & Physical Sciences (SNPS) at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).
It is specialized in manufacturing enriched mineral bottled water. The enriched bottled water was an experimental project that the five undergraduate chemists carried out and produced in the chemistry laboratory at UPNG.
