A very delayed response to the "Php 299 engagement ring" viral story.

One of my favorite novels is "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas. It was turned into a movie in 2002.

In one of the scenarios, the protagonist, Edmond Dantes was with his girlfriend, Mercedes...

Edmond Dantes: As soon as I can afford the ring, we'll wed.
Mercedes: I don't need a ring, I don't.
(Mercedes plucked one of the fringes from her scarf. And said...)
Mercedes: This will be my ring. And no matter what happens, you will never see it off my finger.

It is all about the perspective! The man is more than willing to buy an expensive ring for the love of his life but can't afford as of the moment. But, in that very moment as well, the woman does not care and decided to commit herself to the man even without an expensive ring.

I strongly encourage everyone to read the novel or watch the movie. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of the best literary pieces!
