Thus, our primary fight as parents is to be enamored daily with the miracle of the gospel. Then, and only then, can we show them the God we so dearly worship. And, by his grace they—we pray—will worship him too.

I never understood why you seemed grouchy on some days 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized how bone-tired you were and underappreciated you felt.⁣⁣

I never understood why it took so long for you to get ready 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized you were too busy doing everything to get 𝘶𝘴 ready, and you came last.⁣⁣

I never understood why you would say give me five minutes when I wanted to play 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and just wanted a second to breathe in-between tasks.⁣⁣

I never understood why you would lose it over the smallest things 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized it was a buildup of frustration, anxiety, and stress that had you snapping and not the spilled cheerios all over the floor.⁣⁣

I never understood why you got mad at me when I got out of bed every ten minutes on loop because I wasn't tired 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized how many things you needed to get done while we were sleeping. ⁣⁣

I never understood why you were always worried 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized it's because your love for me was so strong the idea of anything bad happening hurt your soul.⁣⁣

I never understood why you hugged me extra tight some days 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized the world is hard, and I was your reminder that everything was worth it.⁣⁣

Entering motherhood has given me a changed perspective on everything, including you.⁣⁣

A mom will text her twenty-year-old child, letting him know it's going to rain and not to forget an umbrella.⁣

She calls to see how the first day of school separation went for her grandkids and if her daughter made it to the car before tears streamed down her face.⁣
⁣
She watches her daughter's baby, so she can shower and take care of her postpartum body.⁣
⁣
She texts her forty-year-old son, making sure he’s home safe from a wedding because knowing that is still the only way she can sleep well.⁣

even when they’re capable, responsible humans and can do all the things for themselves.⁣

And she always wants to know they’re safe.⁣

Because mothering doesn’t stop when her kids turn eighteen, move far away, or have their own kids.⁣

Mothering never stops,⁣
It just changes.⁣
⁣
When her kids are young, they look to her for everything in their lives: from food to love.⁣
⁣
And when they get older,⁣
she's no longer 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 everything⁣
but she’ll never stop mothering.⁣
⁣
She'll always text or call them, asking⁣
If they’re okay,⁣
and look for a quavering voice⁣
to be that listening ear to vent.⁣
⁣
She’ll still come over when they’re sick,⁣
dropping everything to take care of them,⁣
making chicken soup and pressing a cold towel on their forehead.⁣
⁣
She’ll still make them their favorite spaghetti dish when they come over.⁣
Because their smile as they put the first forkful in their mouth makes her heart smile too.⁣
⁣
She'll always be their "hype woman," lifting them up and celebrating 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 them when they have good news. Because she feels that genuine excitement, too.⁣
⁣
And even when they’re capable,⁣
when they have a family and kids of their own,⁣
when her children push her away,⁣
⁣
𝘴𝘩𝘦’𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨.⁣

And she’ll always be there for them.⁣

the loves of her life,⁣

Why does God correct His children? 🤔

He’s protecting you from harm. 🛡
He’s teaching you an important lesson. 💡
He’s molding you into His image. ✝️

Most importantly, it's because He loves you. 🥰

This phone belongs to my daughter. It’s charging on my kitchen counter. At 9pm, every single night, her phone shuts itself down and she brings it here.

Why? It’s how I keep her safe.

That phone is free of social media. She has an app that allows her to chat with a handful of friends and family. I know every person she talks to and I check her phone and messages regularly.

Why? It’s how I’m keeping her safe.

My son asked me two days ago if I would connect his PS4 to the internet so he could play with friends outside of the house. I said no.

He had a persuasive argument, it was filled with many things I agree with him about. Unfortunately, the good does not outweigh the bad. So, I stuck with the original “no.”

Why? It’s how I am keeping him safe.

These devices, left unchecked, will allow people into our homes at any hour of any day. There is no escape. And I’ve created this home to be an escape.

It’s a safe place for my children. No matter what happens out in the world, I want this house to be their respite, their safe haven, their fortress.

Opening the door to unmonitored internet access allows anyone to enter our home at any time. I’m locking that door.

When it comes to internet access here there is zero privacy. ZERO.

I’ve listened to arguments about privacy and I’ve not heard a single one that made me rethink the safety of my children.

It’s not only their physical safety we are called to guard! We must guard their hearts, their eyes, and their ears until they can make their own rational decisions.

I’m doubling down rather than easing up on this issue. Why? Because I’ve read countless stories of parents who wish they could undo what’s been done.

There are children- CHILDREN- sending pics, videos and other sexual content of themselves to “friends” online.

And it’s not happening out there somewhere- it’s happening in good, solid Christian homes. It’s happening right under our noses.

The fallout of this crisis is yet to be seen. Our boys are exposed to sexual content and po*******hy years earlier than their fathers and the consequences are immeasurable.

Parents, educate yourselves on the long term damage of early po*******hy exposure. I know the old adages bring comfort “boys will be boys.” But I call bull. We are excusing life altering behavior by assuming that it’s “just what boys do.” No longer is it magazine photos of girls they will never meet- it’s n**e pics of girls in their schools.

This is not fear mongering or helicopter parenting, it’s simply common sense.

Check the phones. Monitor their online presence. If you allow social media make sure you’re one of their most engaged followers.

They probably won’t like that. You’ll get some pushback. Parent anyway.

I tell my children all the time “I’m not here to make friends. It’s okay with me if this makes you unhappy.

Why? It’s how I’m keeping them safe.

At this point in my life, wherever I go, there are small bodies following me.

When I’m in the shower, small bodies come in and smoosh their faces against the steamy glass door.

When I’m in the kitchen, making a meal, I feel hands tugging on my pants, trying to get my attention.

When I’m in bed, I feel small bodies pressed against mine, hands hitting me in the face, and legs kicking me all night.

And when I finally have a moment to myself,
it’s interrupted by small voices pulling me in every direction.

"Mommy, I want a snack!"
“Mommy, he’s hitting me!”
"Mommy, I hurt myself and need a band-aid!"

They are trying to get my attention all day long,
and I give them what they need.

But I know as time passes, I won’t see their faces smooshed on my shower door,
they’ll be up in their rooms while I’m cooking dinner,
and I’ll wake up to a good night’s sleep and an empty bed.

And I’ll miss it.
It will be so painful not to feel them and hear them as much as I do now.

So right now, I’m happy that wherever I go, there are small bodies following me.
