Happiness is…discovering someone who loves the same books as you do.
BOOK: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
Words fail to capture the depth of my love for this book. I am profoundly thankful for the lessons it has imparted. It imbues me with a sense of worth, affection, and completeness. I sincerely hope you have the chance to experience it as well.
I discovered this book through my Silent Buddy Read group chat, marking my second dive into Filipino authors. It truly lived up to expectations—it was a short yet immensely fulfilling read. To avoid spoilers, I won't say much more, but here's a passage that resonated with me:
“They warned her of seedy men in dive bars, waiting to pounce at helpless young ladies. Those who hung out drinking in the dead of night. Hooting and hollering at innocent passersby. Those who came in hot blazing with sweet words to coax what he wanted between her legs. But no one warned her of lovely boys who were quiet and kind, who made her coffee and listened to her insufferable rants with patient nod of his head. They didn’t warn her that the worst men are the ones who felt entitled enough to claim you as their own just because you gave a tiny morsel of affection.”
Reading about war throughout our history provides a poignant insight into the human experience, showcasing our vulnerabilities and resilience. These narratives serve as a mirror to our past errors and a testament to our capacity to endure. They also offer a gauge for our future decisions: will we learn from history and pursue peace, or are we destined to perpetuate the cycle of conflict?
BOOK: Elektra
AUTHOR: Jennifer Saint
RATE: 4.5 / 5
Set in the same world of Greek Mythology but centered on three different characters. Elektra is the story of three women in ancient Greece: Clytemnestra, wife of Agamemnon, sister of Helen of Troy, Cassandra the cursed princess trapped in a besieged city and Elektra the youngest daughter of Clytemnestra.
After finishing the book last night, I needed to take a moment of silence to absorb what I had read. This book contains many unpleasant scenarios that I can vividly picture, having an active imagination. It felt like I was watching a heart-wrenching TV series, with every episode bringing a new wave of emotion. Although I didn't deeply connect with any of the characters, their experiences were striking. My appearance has never caused conflict like Helen's, nor have I ever wanted to see or predict the future like Cassandra. I have not experienced loss in the same way as Clytemnestra and Elektra. While I may never fully understand their reasons for their actions, I can relate to their pain, courage, and love. Cassandra's bravery, Clytemnestra's anguish, and Elektra's love resonate with me profoundly.
Happy Reading 🥰

“And the things that were for me, found me. The things that weren’t, didn’t.”
It's wonderful to keep exploring new literary landscapes, but revisiting old favorites adds a delightful layer of nostalgia and introspection to your reading journey.
BOOK: Stone Blind
By: Natalie Haynes
I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this book. While I'm not a big mythology fan, I've always been curious about Greek Gods and Goddesses. I've read several retellings and enjoyed 'getting to know' them, exploring the complexity of their characters. So, when I saw this book, I immediately bought it without hesitation. Judging from the cover, it's easy to assume that the book is about Medusa and her life before she became a monster. However, to my surprise, only 20-30% of the book covers Medusa's story, with the remaining 70% focusing on other gods.
(Yeah, I know, I judged the book by its cover. I mean, who doesn't? 😅) Nonetheless, it was still a fun read, so I'd rate it a 4 out of 5 ⭐️
