Global Korea Scholarship Philippines Alumni Association (GKS PHAA) is the official non-sectarian and non-political organization representing the Filipino GKS Alumni in the Philippines and overseas under the supervision of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines and South Korea’s National Institute for International Education (NIIED). The organization provides a common platform to work together for the welfare, support, interaction and networking of the GKS community inside and outside the Philippines.

A new workcation visa is being tested starting January 2024 for remote workers of overseas companies who wish to stay in Korea.

Applicants must work at an overseas company and have earned a salary equivalent to at least 85,000,000 KRW in the previous year. Qualifying applicants may also apply for their dependent family to stay in Korea during the visa valid period. Eligible remote workers currently staying in Korea on a short-term visitor visa can apply for change of visa. Take note that this visa does not as act as a work permit for employment in Korea and such use is strictly prohibited.

The Power of Nunchi: The Korean Secret to Happiness and Success by Euny Hong illustrates a very important societal concept in the Korean culture — nunchi (눈치). The book clearly exemplifies how crucial it is in Korea to pay special attention to facial expressions, gestures, manner of speaking, and to be able act accordingly based on one’s observations. It adds that having a “fast” nunchi is a form of emotional intelligence as it shows consideration of the people around you.
I recommend this to my fellow readers as the book also teaches one how to better understand others without merely relying on the words they say. Nonverbal cues are just as important.
