When you have a moment, do you think you can show us three separate examples using the words in the graphic? We promise that none of us will judge your sentences too harshly. 😉

Do you give good advice? In the United States, newspapers used to have a dedicated section where readers would write in with a problem and a specialist would analyze their situation and give them advice. This was called an , and we're bringing you this format for the next few weeks to have some fun practicing how to give advice in English.

One way to give advice in English is to use the modal verbs "could," "should," or "must." Be careful, though! The most gentle and polite way to give advice among these three choices is to use "could," while the other two ways sometimes come off as bossy, but that also depends on tone, relationship, and context.

Read the information in the graphic below, and then reflect on the situation Camila finds herself in. In the comments, use one of the modal verbs to advise her on her situation!

Here are two more examples: I was surprised to get a special letter in the mail today. It was a very exciting scholarship offer!

In the comments, use an adjective with -ed to tell us about how you sometimes feel. Then, use an adjective with -ing to describe something that causes an emotion.

When we are confident that something good is likely to happen in the future, we might feel a lot of anticipation, excitement, or enthusiasm! We tell others how excited we are, or how much we are looking forward to an event or activity, and others might notice how enthusiastic we are.
