The AFP Reservist Run marked the AFPRESCOM 31st Anniversary

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City- The AFPRESCOM 31st founding anniversary was marked through its Reservist Run held at Lapulapu Grandstand, CGEA, Quezon City on May 25, 2024.

The Reservist Run was spearheaded by Bgen Vincente M. Ronatay PN(M), with the Team AFPRESCOM and it was participated not only by running enthusiasts from the military & civilian sectors, but also by people of all ages who were able to run, gathering with pride and excitement.

Prior to the run, a simple program with an invocation led by Mr. Joel Urbiso, followed by warm-up exercises led by Ms. Zip Apple Tala, from Run Mania Phils., and with Ms. Leanne Josephine C Austria as the master of ceremony during the event, featured the theme: "AFPRESCOM @31: Overcoming challenges, building resilience, and sustaining excellence."

The event had three race categories: 10 km, 5 km, and 3 km. The highlights of the event included the awarding ceremony, with Tsg Jomar Parangan PA, AFPRESCOM personnel got the 3rd place in the 3 km category, Ms. Salt Adlasan winning the 5 km category, and Mr. Anthony Afable winning the 10 km category.

The event concluded with all participants exhausted but receiving grocery packs making their day memorable and great.

AFPRESCOM is dedicated to developing and maintaining a capable and responsive reserve force, committed to supporting the regular armed forces in times of need and engaging in various community service initiatives.

Founded 31 years ago, AFPRESCOM continues to play a crucial role in national defense and community development through its robust training programs and outreach efforts.

As the organization looks forward to another year of service, the funds raised will be instrumental in enhancing the capabilities of reservists and expanding outreach programs.

AFP joins US Memorial Day rites

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) joined the United States Embassy and other dignitaries in a solemn ceremony to commemorate Memorial Day at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial on May 26. The event honored the valor and sacrifice of the American and Filipino soldiers who fought together during World War II.

General Romeo Brawner Jr., AFP Chief of Staff, led the AFP delegation in paying tribute to the fallen heroes. Despite inclement weather, the ceremony included the laying of wreaths, a moment of silence, and firing salute and taps that echo the enduring alliance between the United States and the Philippines.

The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, the largest of its kind in the Pacific, is the final resting place for over 17,000 American and Filipino service members. It stands as a powerful symbol of the deep and historic ties between the two nations.

This year's commemoration reaffirms the commitment of the AFP and the United States Armed Forces to continue working together in promoting peace and stability in the region.

408th (PALAWAN) CDC: Reservists enhance Joint Operation in the Balikatan Exercise with the US Army

The 16 Ready Reserve led by LTC NIÑO REY ESTOYA MNSA PA (RES) from the 408th Community Defense Center (Palawan), 4RCDG, RESCOM, Philippine Army, under the supervision of LTC MAGDALENA CUSTODIO GSC (AGS) PA, participated in a 5-day Unconventional Warfare Training conducted by the United States (US) Army Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) headed by Captain Don Povich, US Army. The training, held at PAF Air Base, Brgy Punta Baja, Rizal, Palawan on 27 April 2024, also included 4SFCoy, 18SFC, SOCOM, PA, and Ten (10) Philippine Navy Enlisted Reservists from NRCEN-West. During this event, participants were exposed to various tactical exercises, such as Patrolling, Combat Sniper, Reconnaissance, Camouflaging, and Combat Casualty Care Training.

The Unconventional Warfare Training is a program within the Balikatan Exercise-39 CY 2024, led by the Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Joint and Combined Training U8, Western Command, AFP, in collaboration with BK-39-2024.

Furthermore, the involvement of these Reservists in Palawan significantly enhances their proficiency in Joint and Combined Operations. Such training sessions not only bolster the readiness of the Reserve Force but also demonstrate the strong alliance between the Philippines and the United States.

HONORING A HERO | Technical Sergeant Samuel Garbo received a Bronze Cross Medal posthumously for his ultimate act of bravery in saving two children from drowning in Brgy. Locsoon, Eastern Samar on April 8, 2024. Brigadier General Noel Vestuir presented the award to Tsg Garbo's family during his wake.

The Bronze Cross Medal is a distinguished military decoration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, conferred for acts of "heroism involving risk of life" under circumstances not meriting the Gold Cross Medal.

Despite the immense loss, Mariel Garbo, his daughter, expresses deep gratitude to all who have stood by their side. “My father is not perfect but he is a perfect father for us,” she said amidst her grief. TSgt Garbo was laid to rest with a 21-gun salute, a testament to his heroism.

Philippine Army honors Hunters-ROTC Guerillas

The Philippine Army paid tribute to the Hunters-ROTC Guerillas in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hunters-ROTC Monument in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on April 13, 2024.

“These cadets may have been young, but their bravery and patriotism have left an indelible mark on our history. The saga of the Hunters-ROTC Guerillas is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Filipino people in face of adversity,” Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Leodevic B. Guinid said in the keynote message on behalf of Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido.

“As one of the most aggressive guerrilla groups, they not only gathered vital intelligence, but also engaged in raids, showcasing their resolute commitment to freedom,” the Army Vice Commander added.

It can be recalled that the Hunters-ROTC was created through the patriotic fervor of young cadets from the Philippine Military Academy who joined the war efforts against the Japanese imperial forces. In 1942, they recruited and organized ROTC components from various Metro Manila universities and colleges to form a fighting unit. The retaking of Fort McKinley began on February 4, 1945, with the 47th ROTC Division of the Hunters-ROTC Guerrillas spearheading the war effort together with other Hunters units.
