Rener Concepcion started his career in 1979, immediately after his training on Children’s Theater (Trainor’s Workshop), PETA CITASA, under Gigi Carunungan, Ernie Cloma, Ruby Ruiz and, later, under Alexander d’ Montlearte of Germany (sponsored by GoetheHouse). He has likewise trained under Director Alexander Cortez of U.P. for Stage and Production Management in 1980. In 1992, Mr Concepcion was awar
ded Fellowship to the National Writers’ Workshop in Silliman University and was under the tutelage of Dr. Edilberto Tiempo, Dr. Edith Tiempo, Cirilo Bautista, et al. CCDA-CCP also made him Fellow to the National Playwriting Workshop under Rene Villanueva in June-August, 1992. He had likewise attended the workshop on movement and dance facilitated by some members of the Asian Commission for People’s Culture. In March 1992, he was awarded recognition by AR Apacible School of Fisheries as its Most Outstanding Student in Literary Arts for the School Year 1991-1992. In 1995, the NCR Summer Theater Workshop sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and Arts welcomed him as a Scholar to the Training on Basic Acting under Dr. Anton Juan, after which he acted as Creon in Antigone, Dysart in Equus and Lando in Usapang Babae. Concepcion finished his Masters Degree in the University of the Philippines (Araling Pilipino). He has trained student actors in schools within Batangas province and has written several plays, most of them, about Batangas culture. In 2010, his entry entitled “Ang Kagilagilalas na Paglalakbay nina Mumo at Am-I” entered in the Filipino Short Story for Children category of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature Contest and was adjudged Second prize by the year’s Board of Judges. Again, in 2012, Mister Concepcion’s literary piece, “Kumandong Nakaiskwat” was adjudged Second Prize in the Filipino One-Act Play Category of the 2012 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature Contest. Concepcion gave up his teaching post at Batangas State University to do what he thinks will give more meaning to his life and, which will enrich him as a person, now that he thinks he is growing old – the diversified modes of performance through acting on the stage and before the camera.
