🌺 Bougainvillea belongs to the four-o’clock family, Nyctaginaceae, it is a genus of ornamental climbing plants found in the Neotropics. It is common to mistakenly refer to its brightly coloured, long-lasting bracts (specialized leaves subtending flowers) arranged in groups of three as its flower when in fact its flowers are that the inconspicuous normally white blooms in the middle of these colorful modified leaves.

Lotus plants are commonly called Indian lotus, sacred lotus, Egyptian bean or simply lotus. These are colloquially referred to as water lily. These aquatic herbaceous perennials that are mostly native to Australia and Southern Asia. They are part of the Nelumbonaceae botanical family. Two popular species are known, namely the Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) and the American Lotus (Nelumbo lutea).Both lotus species are edible. The plant’s underground stem being rhizomes, are commonly consumed by Asians and Native American tribes for their starch content. The leaves serve as vegetables, and the stamens flavor teas. Lotus seeds are likewise fit for human consumption. They are consumed like nuts and dried and ground into flour. Various plant parts have medicinal properties.
Lotus flowers are however still the highlight why plant lovers have these water lillies. Lotus flowers are mainly available in six colors, including white, pink, yellow, red, blue, and purple.
Fossil records show that lotus flowers have been in existence for millions of years. They are believed to have survived the Ice Age between 1.8 million and 10,000 years ago when many plants went extinct. To this day, lotus flowers can be found globally, from Iran to Japan, India, Australia, and Russia.
Regarded by many cultures as sacred, lotus flowers give various meanings and symbolism. They are called the Flower of Life because of their association with the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Moreover, a lotus flower, particularly the pink one, is the national flower of India.
These flowers are famous for what it represent, the fact that lotus flower emerge from muddy waters then blooms with the rising of the sun symbolizes the act of rising above despite challenges and moving towards the light of wisdom. Several religions have regarded lotus to have divine symbolism. In Buddhism, it symbolizes spiritual awakening, purity and faithfulness. In Christianity, it represents the creation of the universe and its characteristic of being in the muddy water for 3 days before it emerged into a beautiful bloom gave it the divine property that was likened to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Hinduism, the lotus flowers represent that life begins in the water. While in ancient Egypt the lotus flower is associated with rebirth and the sun as both disappear at night and re-emerge fresh in the morning.
