𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃, 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐒.

𝐀𝐧𝐨 𝐛𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐭 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨?
Mayaman sa marine resources (fish and aquatic products) ang West Philippine Sea at pinakikinabangan ito lalo na ng mga mangigisda natin mula sa Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, and iba pang parte ng NCR. Nararapat lamang na malayang makapaglayag at mangisda ang mga kababayan natin dito dahil parte ito ng Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas na may lawak na halos 200 nautical miles. Ibig sabihin, ang Pilipinas lamang ang may karapatan para i-manage ang mga yamang dagat na matatagpuan dito.

𝐀𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐚?
Ipinipilit ng China na kanila ang buong parte ng South China Sea na sasakop sa Exclusive Economic Zone ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea base sa historical claims nila – ang lumang mapa na may 9-dash lines. Dahil dito, gigil ang naturang bansa sa pag-angkin kahit naipanalo ni dating Pangulong Aquino (P-Noy) noong 2016 ang arbitration case sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Base sa kanilang desisyon, walang legal basis ang claim ng China at tunay ngang pagmamay-ari ng Pilipinas ang karapatang ito. May mga historical evidence din tulad ng mga mapa na nagmula pa noong 1700 na nagpapatunay na bahagi ng Pilipinas ang West Philippine Sea at mga isla tulad ng Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) at ang Spratly Islands, na ngayon ay inaangkin din ng China. Ang mga mapa na ito ay kilala bilang Carta Indigena Filipina o Moro-Iranun Map at ang Carta Hydrographica y Chorographica de las Islas Filipinas o mas kilala bilang Velarde Map.

Hindi natanggap ng nasabing bansa ang naging desisyon dahil “null and void” daw ito kaya’t nagpatuloy ang kanilang land reclamation and other water activities sa area. Mas lumala ang isyu dahil sa panahon ng Administrasyong Duterte, isang “gentlemen’s agreement” o “secret agreement” ang hanggang ngayon, hindi pa rin matukoy ayon kay Pangulong Bong-Bong Marcos.

𝐀𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐲𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐧?
Habang gusto ng mga kababayan nating malayang makapangisda sa teritoryo natin, itinuturing ito ng China na “intrusion” at “trespassing” sa inaangkin nilang yamang dagat ng ating bansa. Mas naging agresibo ang China kung saan hinaharangan na ng kanilang mga Chinese vessels ang ating mga mangingisda gamit ang mga water cannons – kung saan maraming vessels na ang nasira, ilang mga kababayan na rin natin ang may injury (ang isa ay naputulan pa ng daliri), mga bangkang pinagsasaksak upang mabutas, at marami pang ibang pananakot at pagbabanta.

𝐀𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐲𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐫𝐢?
Ayon kay Pang. Marcos., “We are not in the business to instigate wars…” and reiterated that his administration “will not resort to the use of force or intimidation”. Ipatutupad din ang Mutual Defense Treaty kung sakaling may mamamatay na Pilipino sa pag-atake ng anumang bansa sa Pilipinas.

Ang West Philippine Sea ay hindi lamang basta yamang dagat kundi sovereign territory ng Pilipinas. Napakahalagang maging mulat sa mga nangyayari dahil parte tayo nito – bilang Nasyonalyan at bilang mamamayan.
