OrbitFuel
Welcome to OrbitFuel! We are a small team located in the Philippines that converts waste to fuel.
[STORY TIME] Our journey in renewable energy started with algae-based fuel research in 2019, driven by a vision to harness the potential of "lumot" (algae) for sustainable energy solutions in heavy industries like aerospace and transportation. We forged a collaboration with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) to explore algae's untapped potential. That same year, we expanded our research to other waste materials and partnered with SGS, a renowned testing laboratory, to validate our findings.
As 2020 dawned, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains, hindering our ability to procure essential materials and transport them efficiently. Public transportation, a crucial aspect of our research, faced significant limitations. Despite these challenges, we persevered, successfully prototyping a smaller machine (with few leaks, lol) that could convert waste food oil into affordable renewable fuel.
The pandemic also forced us to halt our algae research, as we lost access to PUP's laboratories. Undeterred, we continued our experiments with different engines and fuel mixtures, seeking alternative solutions to our renewable energy goals.
In late 2022, we rekindled our efforts to introduce waste-derived fuel to the Filipino public, particularly the public transport sector and its commuters. The initial scale-up phase proved successful with few learnings, capturing the attention of environmentally and financially conscious "Mamang Tsuper" (Filipino public transport drivers). I personally dedicated my efforts to preventing the nationwide traditional jeepney phase-out, a move that could have adversely impacted the livelihoods of many Filipino drivers.
Through our interactions with Mamang Tsuper as well as commuting with the public, I formed deep connections with my fellow countrymen, an experience that resonated with the legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal, my favorite national hero who championed systems thinking, social justice, and empowerment.
Yesterday marked the official commencement of "Scale-up 2" for our fuel research initiative. This phase will introduce more advanced tanks and methods to streamline operations and enhance fuel quality. Our ultimate goal is to produce extremely affordable green fuel options that will support our nation's transition to a more renewable future, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
At OrbitX, our aspirations soar beyond rockets and other Filipino-made technologies. Despite the hurdles of limited resources, lack of frameworks, and unforeseen obstacles, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continuous research and development, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of an advanced, sustainable, and equitable future for all Filipinos.

Rocket engineering is difficult for a number of reasons:
* Complex physics: Rockets must overcome the force of gravity to escape Earth's atmosphere and reach orbit. This requires a deep understanding of physics and engineering principles, including aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and propulsion.
* Extreme environments: Rockets operate in extreme environments, with high temperatures, pressures, and vibrations. This requires the use of specialized materials and components that can withstand these conditions.
* High stakes: Rocket launches are complex and high-stakes operations. A single mistake can lead to a catastrophic failure, resulting in the loss of the rocket and its payload, and potentially even human lives.
These challenges are even more pronounced in the Philippines, a developing country with limited resources and expertise in rocket science. The country also lacks the infrastructure needed to support a rocket launch program, such as launch pads, tracking stations, and recovery facilities.
Despite these challenges, OrbitX is a Filipino aerospace team that is aiming to develop and launch the country's liquid rocket into space. The team is led by a team of researchers and engineers who are passionate about space exploration. OrbitX is also working with a number of international partners to gain access to the resources and expertise it needs to succeed.
OrbitX could be a catalyst for the development of rocket engineering in the Philippines in a number of ways:
* By demonstrating that it is possible to develop and launch a rocket from the Philippines, OrbitX could inspire other Filipinos to pursue careers in rocket science and engineering.
* OrbitX could help to build the infrastructure needed to support a rocket launch program in the Philippines.
* OrbitX could attract foreign support and partnerships, which would help to accelerate the development of rocket engineering in the Philippines.
In addition, OrbitX is committed to using renewable energy to power its rockets. This would make the company a pioneer in the field of sustainable space exploration.
It is also logical for OrbitX to commercialize its renewable energy efforts and other projects like its high temperature sensors to generate revenue, gain exposure and credibility, transfer technology to other sectors, create jobs, and become even more impactful. However, it is also challenging for OrbitX to do so because it is a private team with limited resources and unproven expertise in these areas, and the Philippine market for renewable energy and high temperature sensors is still relatively small.
* To generate revenue to support its rocket development program. OrbitX is a private team and does not receive government funding or proper industry-level funding. Commercializing its renewable energy and sensor technologies would provide the company with a steady stream of fund to support its rocket development program.
* To gain exposure and credibility. By commercializing its renewable energy and sensor technologies, OrbitX would gain exposure and credibility in the global aerospace community. This would help the company to attract partners, and it would also make it easier for the team to be successful.
* To transfer technology to other sectors. OrbitX has developed a number of innovative renewable energy and sensor technologies. By commercializing these technologies, OrbitX can transfer them to various sectors, where they can be used to develop new products and services.
* To create jobs and boost the economy. Commercializing its renewable energy and sensor technologies would allow OrbitX to create jobs and boost the Philippine economy.
OrbitX is a private group and does not receive government and proper industry-level funding. Commercializing its renewable energy and sensor technologies would provide the company with a steady stream of revenue to fund its rocket development program and attract partners. It would also gain exposure and credibility in the global aerospace community, and transfer technology to the private sector. Additionally, it would create jobs and boost the Philippine economy.
The success of OrbitX would be a major achievement for the Philippines and for the global space exploration community. It would show that it is possible for developing countries to participate in space exploration, and it would help to pave the way for a more sustainable future for space travel.
