NEWS | The school year greeted students from the Basic and Secondary Education Department with the annual Welcome Walk event on August 19th. The event started at 12:00 pm at the campus gymnasium and ended at around 2:00 pm. Organized by the FEURC Student Council, the event was a festive start for the school year.

The students were escorted to their respective classrooms while waiting for the program to start. At around 12:15 pm, the student council officers visited the rooms to notify the start of the event. Students were greeted with the Tamaraw chant as they were approaching the gymnasium. Gradually, the venue filled up with students. Ms. Erika Commendador, the assistant principal, introduced the various departments of FEU Roosevelt Cainta, and invited them to the stage with her. It was all screams with every teacher called, with students cheering for their beloved teachers. She jokingly described it as a 'fanbase' for each teacher, which lightened up the mood of everyone in the venue!

Afterwards, a surprising performance from Jan Carlo Tiongco Amores hyped everyone up. The hit performance featured the songs 'Gr***de' by Bruno Mars and 'One Moment in Time' by Whitney Houston. With each pose and costume change struck by Jan Carlo, cheers echoed across the gymnasium. The groove from the Movers Club and the new faculty members was also an energy booster for the event. The zumba-like performance included the confused TamTam, that added laughs and cheers to the performance! Samantha Limpin had the last performance to grace the stage, but definitely not the least! Her rendition of Moonstar88's 'Torete' made students wave their hands in the air and sing along.

Ms. Nicky Cabafranca, the academic coordinator of the Elementary Education Department, gave a speech that reminded students of the importance of the cultural heritage of the Filipinos. It was a commemoration of the Buwan of Wika, set for August. Following up was Ms. Criselle Joy Ubaldo with her announcement of the start of the Buwan of Wika celebration. The event will consist of various 'tanghalan' that will showcase the students' talents with the Filipino culture.

For the closing remarks, Ms. Susan Torres thanked the students of FEU Roosevelt Cainta for their participation in the campus activities, especially the FEURC Student Council that brought the event to life.

After a handful of an event filled with energy, the students went back to their respective classrooms to rest before taking their recess time. The orientations ended at 4:00 pm, wrapping up another memorable day of the Tamaraws.

NEWS | With the ending of sweet summer rest, the school welcomed back its students with open arms this August 19. At about 7 am, the students of the Basic Education Department scheduled for the AM sessions, assembled in their respective classrooms to wait for the teachers to call them outside.

At around 7:30, the faculty walked to each door to call upon each grade and section and had them wait in the driveway in front of the EED Building. As the students waited for the others to exit their classrooms, they were surprised by the sudden appearance of the school mascot—TamTam. TamTam went around, interacting with students—putting big smiles on their faces and pulling out hearty laughs from the baby Tams. After a bit of waiting, the students were ready to walk; the youngest students in front, drums beating accompanied them in their short parade. And so—with yellow and green balloons in hand, they marched onwards towards the gymnasium.

The students were enthusiastically greeted by the hosts, hyping up the early bird students before they played the Lupang Hinirang and a multi-faith prayer. After a warm opening, they handed off the microphone to the EED Academic Coordinator —Lilibeth Acosta to give her opening remarks, thanking the principal, vice principal, and the rest of the faculty for allowing the event to happen. After which, she handed the phone back to the hosts to start a roll call—calling out each and every grade and section to scream out in response. After the students had screamed their all for the roll call, they handed the microphone to Mrs. Morelos for the kamustahan; she went around the court, asking students about their experience today and their expectations for this school year.

After that, students were to dance along to the moves of the Movers' Club, the faculty, and the school's mascot TamTam with the song 'Pantropiko' by BINI. They let out enthusiastic screams in response and even danced along with them at the sound of the hit song. With the students now energized, the hosts called upon Ms. Erika Commendador to introduce the faculty staff. Each teacher went up the stage as their names were called, and introduced along with the departments they were involved in. After the introduction of the teachers, they were once again a witness to the Movers Club's talent, with some faculty members surprisingly joining in; and so, with renewed energy, the students danced along to those on stage.

With the students now winded from staying in the hot and crowded gymnasium, they made quick remarks about the importance of the upcoming Buwan ng Wika and the significance of its celebration before handing off the microphone to Sir Elizer Syrus Paule. With Sir Elizer closing the program, he encouraged them to sing the FEU Hymn before they all lined up to walk back towards their classrooms. Now, with the Basic Education Department students with the AM session done with their welcome walk for today, the Senior High School is next to come for the afternoon session.

NEWS | The second day of orientations of Week Zero, August 16, was focused on FEU Roosevelt’s learning partners with its platforms available for students to use on learning even outside the campus. The orientations were divided by each department with different speakers for each platform.

𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝟏-𝟔

The orientations for the Elementary Education Department started with the Scholastic orientation by Ms. Nicole Digao, a Prime English Consultant of Scholastic Philippines. She introduced the Scholastic Reading Zone; a platform by Scholastic that holds the features available by students. These are the Literacy Pro, Bookflix, Trueflix, PR1ME English, and PR1ME Reading Comprehension Skills Assessment.

The Literacy Pro, which contains the library and the reading logs of students, was the first feature shown by Ms. Digao. The books shown in a student’s library are customized to their Lexile Level, a measure of their reading and comprehension ability. The Lexile Level is determined by the Scholastic LitPro Test, an assessment taken twice every year.

The Bookflix and Trueflix, where non-fiction video adaptations of fiction books are paired with reading, was the next feature shown by Ms. Digao. Students can watch a video made for their chosen book, which they can read afterward. The feature contains various games designed to increase a student’s reading and comprehension ability.

Lastly, the PR1ME English was the last feature shown. This feature is used by teachers to send lessons and activities to students. This is paired with the PR1ME Reading Comprehension Skills Assessment feature, where students can complete their activities. The next orientation was by Scholastic PR1ME Math with Ms. Kim Cabrera. This learning platform has similar features to its counterpart, PR1ME English. PR1ME Math offers coursework books that are adjusted for various grade levels and an online platform to aid students with their skills in mathematics. These options can help students advance in their learning if they are aligned to their liking.

MS. Digao also presented the awards that students can get from reading books. Some awards include prizes from Scholastic, such as books and pins. Other awards that are open to the whole department have greater prizes and merit.

𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝟕-𝟏𝟎

The orientations for Grades 7-10 were hosted by Mr. Elizer Syrus Paule, the Junior High School Coordinator of FEU Roosevelt Cainta. After Mr. Paule’s opening remarks, he introduced Mr. Christopher Bayani, a consultant of Scholastic Prime English. This learning partner helps nourish students' literacy proficiency through reading books.

Scholastic Prime English contains more than 5000 books to help students expand their knowledge and increase their competency in grammar and reading comprehension. Mr. Bayani demonstrated how to access the online platform and its features to keep track of the reading journey of the students and to make it more fun to use. Scholastic Go was also introduced as a learning platform available for students, that contains non-fiction books to improve the literacy skills of students.

Subsequently, Scholastic Activities was also introduced in different year levels, including some of the awards that students with consistent competency in using Scholastic Prime English will receive. After that, Questions and Answers commenced to open for more inquiries and consultations about utilizing Scholastic Prime English.

Ms. Chrisitine Mae Trajano, a Solutions and Implementation Specialist, introduced Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces, also called "ALEKS," a platform to help students improve their mathematics skills, master critical thinking skills, and grow their time management mindset. Ms. Trajano demonstrated how to access ALEKS and how to utilize its features to monitor students' progress, such as the Pie Progress Chart, Timeline Carousel, and Knowledge Check. After that, the Questions and Answers segment was also opened to seek questions about ALEKS.

𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝟏𝟏-𝟏𝟐

They first introduced Cengage, a website wherein students are able to access educational content digitally. With their e-books available any time, paired with the options to highlight important passages and have their entire lessons read out loud while they do their chores and other responsibilities, Cengage offers much versatility in the students' daily lives and supports them as they study. Following the introduction of Cengage, they introduced ALEKS, a program specifically designed to guide students on their mathematical journeys. ALEKS tailors lessons to each student's capabilities using a pretest, after which it carefully outlines a personalized set of lessons to aid students in their math studies. Lastly, the McGraw Hill Connect was also introduced, a learning platform with topics adjusted for the Accountancy and Business Management strand.

With the students now familiar with both Cengage, ALEKS, and Connect—various programs designed to aid them in their studies—there is no doubt that they will help extinguish the students' anxieties in their subjects, particularly math. There is only hope that they will use these tools and strive to enrich their learning.

These learning platforms will help students increase their competency in the upcoming school year. They will serve as guides for the students to master all their lessons in different subjects. With this, FEU Roosevelt’s Week Zero officially ended.

NOW HAPPENING | FEU Roosevelt has started its orientation with their learning partners.

For Grades 1-6, they will have an orientation with Scholastic Prime English and Math.

For Grades 7-10, they will have an orientation with Scholastic Prime English and ALEKS

For Grade 11-12, they will have an orientation with Cengage, ALEKS, and Connect (ABM).

The orientations started at 8:00am and will end at noon.

NEWS | Opening S.Y. 2024- 2025 with FEU Roosevelt’s Grand Orientation

FEU Roosevelt formally opened the academic year 2024 to 2025 today, August 15, with its Grand Welcome via MS Teams as part of its Week Zero activities. The welcome event involves making incoming students optimistic for the start of official classes and familiar with the school’s background, offices, learning systems, and digital platforms.

At 8:00 AM, the program commenced as Ms. Justine Salazar and Mr. Jerald Rosento, the emcees of the event, introduced the members of the school administration to deliver their remarks. The principal of FEUR Rodriguez, Ms. Maria Teresa Angeles, gave her welcome remarks, while the history of the three FEUR campuses (Cainta, Marikina, and Rodriguez) was presented by Mr. Michael Bitanga.

To entertain the viewers, intermission numbers from the three campuses were showcased. Afterward, Ms. Erika Comendador, the Cainta campus assistant principal, presented an overview of the topics to be discussed during the event. These include orientations regarding MS Office 365 and other student services.

The heads of different departments for student services began to discuss their structure and the services they offer to the school community. They also provided instructions regarding several processes such as troubleshooting problems on accounts, the enrollment requirements, payment processes, guidance online appointments, and medical services.

Canvas, the primary learning tool of FEU Roosevelt and where student services are mostly found, was given an intensive orientation. The CSOC or Canvas Student Onboarding Course was emphasized by Mr. Karl De Los Santos. This is a course for students to adapt to the new learning tool. Subsequently, students’ questions were immediately answered by the departments.

The Week Zero activities will continue on August 16 with orientations for students per department based on their learning partners. In case students or parents missed the Grand Welcome this morning, they could still rewatch the recorded session via the link sent to them by their advisers.

Last July 10, 2024, our baby Tams from Developmental Kindergarten, and Grade 1 to Grade 5 received their academic awards in the EED Recognition Ceremony. Their outstanding hard work paid off as they were called on stage to receive their awards through certificates and medals with their proud parents. 🏅

At their young age, they were able to believe in themselves with pivotal perseverance and competence to achieve their goals.

SPEAK UP FOR THE STORY OF US, CAMPUS JOURNALISTS! 💜✨

Campus journalists from different schools gathered at FEURC Gazette's Journalism Camp entitled "Speak Now: Campus Journalism as a Catalyst for Change" last May 11, 2024 at FEU Roosevelt Cainta's Audio-Visual Room.

The event showcased two speakers that helped guide these campus journalists on speaking up with Fact-Checking and Media Accountability: Mrs. Annie Laborte with her talk, The Art of Fact-Checking, and Mr. Clark Valle with his talk, Understanding Media Accountability. Their talks help to understand the purpose of campus journalism in spreading beyond and words and expanding their horizon in continue to serve with integrity and accountability that our society looks for.

The Gazette Team are enchanted to meet these students and wishes that this event encouraged them to speak now and be the positive change for campus journalism! 💜✨

Last April 27, 2024 the Open House commenced wherein students and their parents are able to navigate our campus— FEU- Roosevelt Cainta and have an insight about the school's program and offers to put consideration as one of their new home for the next school year.

They were able to have a campus tour with guidance from the school staffs and teachers, and were able to take a look at the following school's faculties. They also take a look in the school's innovative learning system by introducing some of the school's programs and platforms that help students to become more competent and productive in their learning. 📗

In the end, visitors are able to receive a sweet treat and souvenirs from school to show appreciation in attending the school's Open House. They were able to leave the program with their smiles on their faces and able to look at the school's good quality of education. 🔰
