Our Anniversary Ball was a 'riot' and frolic of happiness! There were presentations of each Cluster on the goodness of our Lord with East A for the past 25 years. There was a heartfelt honoring and recognition of the original CFC in East A- 25 years and those 20 years and above in CFC now serving East A.
Truly a night of remembering, a night of dancing and fellowship, basking in the goodness of the Lord.
May these 25 years of our serving God be the prologue of a fairy tale without an ending. Happy silver anniversary!
God bless us all!

REFLECTION:
Our Lord Jesus prays that we be protected from the “evil one". In His prayer, a number of features strike us: the absence of any litany of His own needs; overflowing sense of intimacy with the Father; deep concern for His disciples and everyone who will come to believe in Him, asking the Father to protect, consecrate, and bring them to the kind of union that He shares with the Father .... How central we are for Jesus in His "daily conversation" with the Father! And, to know that He has prayed for us- what greater security we need to let go of all our anxieties! The reality of our risen Lord is that, from now on, nothing and no one will ever be able to separate us from His love.
Risen Lord, help us to be a sign of love to others. Amen.

Readings: http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/083121.cfm
The READINGS remind us that we must be prepared for the return (Second Coming) of our Lord Jesus).
FIRST READING: St. Paul urges the faithful in Thessalonika to be alert and ready for the Lord Jesus’ coming again, for the time of Jesus’ return could be any time and no one knows when it will be.
PSALM: describes the hope of one who waits for the end when the bounty of the Lord will be given to those who are ready.
GOSPEL: Jesus travels to Capernaum and performs signs that are associated with the coming of the Messiah.
REFLECTION:
God's authority is at stake and many question it. We hear convincing words from media, politics and science. Often, they are pleasing, but we ignore the merit of them. World is enslaved and dehumanized by their authority. Only the authoritative, compassionate Word of God offers hope and restore dignity, liberty and wholeness to us. Jesus invites us to use our 'authority and power' with love and mercy to help our brothers and sisters who are possessed with "evil spirits" such as anger, envy, greed, etc. using it in such a way of imitating Him. In a practical way, we must be a source of Light (joy, warmth, coziness, hope, energy), treat others with compassion with real interest in helping, showing them that there is reason to have hope.
Lord Jesus, heal us with Your life-giving Word. Amen.

Keeping the laws and traditions in order to appear to be religious without honoring God and His word is hypocrisy. We can appear to obey God's Word in the external practices, while inwardly we harbor evil desires and intentions. What make us unclean or unfit before God? Hatred, anger, lust or envy that lead to sin are the real source of defilement. Our Lord Jesus invites us to look to the inside- to our heart, where it matters to Him. He is pleased to see the love we have and all our efforts to share love. What counts at the end is the goodness of heart with which we lived for others, and loved God.
Holy Spirit, help us to examine our motives for the things we do. Amen.

God blesses us and gives us according to what we can handle. Too often we get caught up in the envious practice of wanting more of this and that and think God is unfair because other has more than we do. God created us and knows our capabilities and limits. How selfish have we become?!? Instead of worrying about what we don’t have, Jesus teaches us to focus on what we do have and to ask God what we should do with it. Whatever He has given us we should use to the best of our ability. We should above all be devoted to loving and helping one another, prayerfully seeking how we can make a positive impact around us. This is the purpose for which God has blessed us so that we can love each other well with what we have. To appreciate, to be grateful and to increase the God given gifts, we need to know and love God and one another more and more.
Lord Jesus, help us to use our time, treasure, talents, Your gifts for the good of all.

Saint Augustine's Story
A Christian at 33, a priest at 36, a bishop at 41: Many people are familiar with the biographical sketch of Augustine of Hippo, sinner turned saint. But to get to really know the man is a rewarding experience.
There quickly surfaces the intensity with which he lived his life, whether his path led away from or toward God. The tears of his mother, the instructions of Ambrose and, most of all, God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures, redirected Augustine’s love of life to a life of love.
Having been so deeply immersed in creature-pride of life in his early days and having drunk deeply of its bitter dregs, it is not surprising that Augustine should have turned, with a holy fierceness, against the many demon-thrusts rampant in his day. His times were truly decadent: politically, socially, morally. He was both feared and loved, like the Master. The perennial criticism leveled against him: a fundamental rigorism.
In his day, Augustine providentially fulfilled the office of prophet. Like Jeremiah and other greats, he was hard-pressed but could not keep quiet. “I say to myself, I will not mention him/I will speak in his name no more/But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart/imprisoned in my bones/I grow weary holding it in/I cannot endure it” (Jeremiah 20:9).
Reflection
Augustine is still acclaimed and condemned in our day. He is a prophet for today, trumpeting the need to scrap escapisms and stand face-to-face with personal responsibility and dignity.

Have we ever felt impelled or driven to do something? To shop, to keep in touch with others by: phone calls, sending texts, messages, cards, visiting, etc. We feel that we are on a mission? We should all feel compelled to be on a mission- the mission of proclaiming Jesus. We too have been led by others to Jesus. We remember when we were invited by friends, we were also told “Come and see”. We start thinking and thanking our friends, who we believe, speak with peace and joy in Jesus. We have a lot of persons to thank, but do we have anyone who will thank us? Have we brought or invited anyone closer to our Lord? Let us reach out to some of our friends, family members and even past enemies :) The Lord asks us to proclaim the Good News. We are His beloved instruments that have come to know and believe that Jesus is our greatest treasure. Impossible mission? With God, all things are possible! Are we ready?
Lord Jesus, may we always strive to be without guile in our relationship with You. Amen.

The only thing certain and unchanging in life is not the proverbial death and taxes, but the love of God poured out in our Lord Jesus. The love of God goes beyond death and taxes. “Our souls are restless, until they rest in You, O God” - St Augustine. Things are going to change; friends will come and go, but our relationship with God is a ‘for sure thing' that even though we have to say: 'Good bye' and 'Farewell' to friends and family we believe that we will be reunited with them again, all because of the love of God. The Lord Jesus allows us to make reconnection with those who were part of our life. Thanks to social technology, we have heard from many friends whom we had not heard anything for quite long, with our elementary and high school classmates, whom we had not heard anything for more than decades since our high school graduation. So let us not say, 'Goodbye' as our final departing word, let us say 'A-Dios'. For as we bid others, 'A-Dios', we say 'To God' or 'In your journeying towards God', thus wishing them a safe journey to God. For it is in our traveling 'To God' that we are united 'In God'.
Risen Lord, help us to keep our eyes focus on our eternal destination and may that guide us as we journey to be with God forever. Amen.
God bless us and our homes!

In our earthly sojourn it is not always easy to say 'Hello', to begin new relationships, moreso, 'Good bye', to let go of old relationships. Separation from loved ones is part of life – death and new life. Coming to the end of loving service to those for whom we have cared is not a pleasing memory; even thinking about it can cause emotional strain. This is because of this covid crisis, we are not able to say farewell to our loved ones and friends. What keeps us from breaking down is the realization that God will be glorified not only at the time of our separation, but when we come together again. We ponder the meaning of glory, eternal life, obedience, prayer. We are one in the prayer of our Lord Jesus – He prays for us. To be one with Him, we have to be one with our brothers and sisters, reach out to them and pray for them. Let us continue to pray for those who are traveling along with us as we follow our Lord Jesus leading us to the house of our God the Father.
Risen Lord, help us to boldly say on the day of our departure from this earth, " We have finished the work You gave us to do". Amen.
God bless us and our homes!
