May 22, 2020 β The team turns over 30 to 50 seedlings of eight vegetables to the recipients from Brgy Ilo, Sta Margarita. The turnover was witnessed by the Punong Barangay Glenda Paller of Brgy Ilo and Dr. Leo Jesus M. Lacaba, vice president for research, extension and external affairs of NwSSU. As part of the turnover, a memorandum of agreement was signed by the parties as explained in detail by Dr. Catherine Rodriguez, Director for Extension Services of NwSSU. Mr. Edward Mensorado, agriculturist provided a lecture on organic fertilizers and pesticides available to the community.

May 12, 2020 β The team turns over 30 to 50 seedlings of eight vegetables to the recipients from Brgy Lonoy, Calbayog City. The turnover was witnessed by the Punong Barangay Elena M. Parillos of Brgy Lonoy and Dr. Leo Jesus M. Lacaba, vice president for research, extension and external affairs of NwSSU. As part of the turnover, a memorandum of agreement was signed by the parties as explained in detail by Dr. Catherine Rodriguez, Director for Extension Services of NwSSU. Mr. Edward Mensorado, agriculturist provided a lecture on organic fertilizers and pesticides available to the community.
May 7-8, 2020 β The team also coordinated and conducted initial talks to prospective barangays with their officials and beneficiaries. The identified barangays include Gadgaran, Guin-on, Lonoy and Tabawan for Calbayog district. For the Tinambacan district, Brgys Malajog, Danao, PeΓ±a and San Joaquin, and finally for Oquendo district, Brgys Mawacat, Sinidman Occidental, Anislag and Mag-ubay. Receptive barangays were told to prepare their respective household recipients and their planting areas for the forthcoming distribution of seedlings and seeds.
May 5, 2020 β The team borrows from the IGP office several portable tables for the germinated seedlings. These were identified and labeled by kind.
April 30, 2020 β The team started the seed germination process using germinating trays and makeshift germinating plots made from recycled plastic bottles, soil and rice husks. The College of Computing and Information Sciences through Dr. Riz Ortiz lent a room just behind the office of the REEA as stock room for the project. Mr. Jason Fabillar of the DA SJ experimental station visited and inspected the activity.
April 27, 2020 β The team sorted and repacked the seeds in preparation for distribution among the identified barangays. The team solicited help from student volunteers Samantha Tarrayo, Rea Baragenio, Christine Montabon, John Carlo Lucis, and Bernard Leopardas in the repacking of the seeds.
April 24, 2020 - The team proceeded in preparing the soil media for a seedbed used for germination. While a team was also tasked to plant and germinate the seeds. The university was given seeds for a set of vegetables constituting the famous βpinakbetβ recipe of the Philippines. This included squash, lady fingers (okra), eggplant, string beans, bottle goard (upo), bitter guard (ampalaya), tomato and cucumber. With this, a team of REEA personnel and volunteers headed by Dr. Leo Jesus M. Lacaba, vice president for research, extension and external affairs were given 3.5 kilos worth of seeds from the San Jorge Experimental Station of the Department of Agriculture. This seeds were further divided by the two campuses so that their respective areas will be catered.
April 21, 2020 - Northwest Samar State University through the Office of Research, Extension and External Affairs was tapped by the Department of Agriculture to be its partner in the implementation of its βPlant, Plant, Plant programβ with its battle cry βAhon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Laban sa Covid-19.β The aim is to increase food adequacy level during the emergency situation resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The university was given seeds for a set of vegetables constituting the famous βpinakbetβ recipe of the Philippines.
