FIRST OF THE YEAR | The Graciella Collective Talks Anti-Sexual Harassment to Grade 9 Students from New Era High School, Quezon City ๐Ÿ—ฃ

Last 03 February 2023 (Friday), Founder & Director Graciella Moises talked about Reproductive Health and Anti-Sexual Harassment to over a hundred Grade 9 students from New Era High School. She had been invited by Mr. Mark Jacinto of the Rotary Club of Midtown Quezon City, under their "PROJECT FHM: Empowering Girls on Feminine Hygiene Management." The said project was in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Midtown QC, the Interact Club of New Era High School, and Haliya Cup.

The young students were particularly eager to learn about the different forms of sexual harassment and the ways they could address and prevent it from an individual and societal level -- so much so that the time allotted for the Open Forum almost seemed too short! ๐Ÿ˜…

in Decision-Making Bodies | The Graciella Collective as part of the Alliance in PLCPD's Agenda Formulation for the 19th Congress

The "Agenda Formulation for the 19th Congress" is a nationwide multi-sectoral consultation, led by the Philippine Legislators' Committee on Population and Development, to develop the legislative agenda in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and the prevention of violence against women and girls (PVAWG). The first out of its three phases was held this 21st of July 2022 at Prime Hotel, Quezon City, Manila.

Lean Wynette, one of the Advocacy Directors, represented the Collective by discussing the priority legislative measures on SRHR and PVAWG, as well as the advocacy interventions that the group intends to do in the 19th Congress. Joining her in the following frames are representatives from Plan International, Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines, SheDecides Philippines and Brgy. Culiat.

Moving forward, the Alliance aspires to engage more people in the protection of women and girls, uphold laws that are well-understood by its stakeholders through the contextualization and localization of policies, and ensure its strict implementation and retentivity beyond its passage and publication.

The Graciella Collective stands firm with PLCPD's policy advocacies, and will continually address the issues of the youth and women sectors by adding our voice to this ever-pressing conversation!

FOR A GENDER-INCLUSIVE SOCIETY!

Inclusivity is freeing. Thus, the identities portrayed by individuals should not be a hindrance in presenting oneโ€™s self and affect their social relationship. Gender-related topics in various research would be a great help to emphasize the inclusivity that everyone โ€“ regardless of their gender โ€“ deserves. Because all genders matter and should be celebrated.

PUP Circle Research Enthusiasts in collaboration with the Research Institute for Culture and Language's Kultura Lektura Series proudly presents, "They," Who is Left Uncited: Envisioning the Future of Research with Gender Sensitivity happening this July 18, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM via Zoom Platform. Take the small but significant step with us in understanding the complexity and relevance of gender sensitive research.

| The Graciella Collective during "Persist for Women and Girls' Health and Rights: A CSO (Civil Society Organizations) Forum" in Quezon City, Manila

The "Persist for Women and Girls' Health and Rights: CSO Forum" was held last June 14, 2022 in Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City, Manila. Spearheaded by the Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR), and co-organized by the Philippine Legislators' Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) and CWR | Center for Women's Resources, the event sought to prepare CSOs for the challenges ahead in engaging the new administration and the 19th Congress of the Philippines by firming up their collective advocacy agendas and identifying ways to work together for women and girls' health and rights.

The Graciella Collective was represented by its Founder and Director, Graciella Moises, and Co-Director for Education and Research, Lheyla Cruz. Miss Graciella Moises was also requested to represent the youth sector by sharing her reflections on the key discussions and voicing out the demands of young people. In her case, it was the proper and proportionate delivery of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) as the benchmark of adolescent and adult sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and the sustained participation of the youth in multiple levels (be it in civil society or legislation) to ensure inclusivity and retention of policies.

The Graciella Collective is beyond grateful to be included in the said forum, and looks forward to collaborating with the attending agencies and organizations in promoting gender-informed and youth-inclusive improvements in the health, legislative, and civil society sectors of the Philippines!

- Graciella Moises, Founder & Director of The Graciella Collective

"Pasya Ko, Kapangyarihan" was held last May 27, 2022 in Jess & Pat's, Maginhawa, Quezon City. Gathering a pool of artists, activists, and advocates for women's health and rights, the event offered a much needed space to recharge from the recent campaign season, and reinforce our collective calls for the new administration to prioritize SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) in their agendas, and uphold democracy and justice. As our solidarity message suggests, "Ang atake sa pansariling pagpapasya ay atake rin sa demokrasya (An attack on our personal autonomy is also an attack on democracy)." Similarly, an attack on democracy has negative implications on our personal autonomy -- as exhibited in the United States of America right now.

Founder and Director Graciella Moises, Director for Education and Research Jea Torne, and Co-Director for Education and Research Lheyla Cruz represented The Graciella Collective as one of the few youth-led, women's rights organizations in attendance. Joining them in the following frames are fellow advocates from Oxfam Pilipinas, Young Advocates for SRHR (YAS), Alliance, and CWR | Center for Women's Resources.

Together with the Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR), The Graciella Collective urges all to continuously promote and work towards the realization of ; a world where we are free to decide on all aspects of our bodies, sexualities, and lives without coercion, discrimination and violence!

Vote reunites women and girlsโ€™ rights advocates in the culmination of National Womenโ€™s Month celebration

About 20 women and girlsโ€™ rights organizations gathered in Quezon City on 29 March 2022 to talk about what voting for women and girlsโ€™ rights means to them โ€“ amplifying the issues of women and girls as a priority agenda in the 2022 elections.

In his message, Mr. Romeo Dongeto, PLCPDโ€™s Executive Director, highlighted the legislative milestones in reproductive health and the prevention of violence against women and girls in the 18th Congress namely, Republic Act (RA) 11596 or the Prohibition of Child Marriage Law and RA 116481 or the act raising the age of statutory r**e from below 12 to below 16 years old. Mr. Dongeto described the efforts of the Alliance, PLCPD, and its networks to sustain these gains with the launch of the Vote under the iChange electoral campaign. Mr. Dongeto ended his speech by reminding each and every one to vote that reflects oneโ€™s aspirations and values.

The โ€™ Agenda was formally launched and shared by PLCPD Advocacy Manager Angie Ramirez, Ms Farhana Tala Ganoy from the Maguindanao Alliance of Youth Advocates, and Mr. Jamal Pandapatan from Linding Ko Kalumbayan. The โ€™ Agenda includes the following:
โ— Passage of the bill on adolescent pregnancy prevention to address the issue of children having children which makes girls vulnerable to negative health, social, and development impacts;
โ— Implementation of mandatory comprehensive sexuality education under the Reproductive Health Law to fulfill the rights of adolescents to age-appropriate information and services; and
โ— Implementation of the recently enacted RA 11596 or the law prohibiting the practice of child marriage in the country.

The Vote encourages voters to choose candidates with platform that upholds the rights of women and girls, to take into consideration the future of children - especially girls - in voting, to never believe nor propagate fake news, and to act together in expanding the network of the Alliance.

The organizations that attended shared their solidarity messages and talked about what voting for women and girlsโ€™ rights means to them.

The event also featured performances from Pinang Dela Cruz and members of the community theater of Barangay Culiat and Bayang Barrios at ang Naliyagan. The culminating event ended with a symbolic action by raising their voices and committing to cast their vote for women and girls.

SAFER IN SOLIDARITY

"What can we do to help and ?

Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation thatโ€™s been perpetuated for decades.

Itโ€™s pervasive, but itโ€™s not inevitable unless we stay silent.

Womenโ€™s movements have the power to change this. And we all can be part of that change. Standing firm with victims is fundamental to making obvious improvements and provide the support that all victims and survivors demand and deserve.

Create a safer environment for everyone by challenging your peers to reflect on their own behavior and speaking up when someone crosses the line, or by enlisting the help of others if someone doesnโ€™t feel safe.

As always, listen and believe the victim, and make sure they have the support they need. And if you are one of them, we are here for you."

SAFER IN SOLIDARITY

"Throughout history, women have evidently taken an active role in struggles for their rights and liberation. For generations, women have been oppressed, their human rights have been ignored, they have been considered as second-class citizens, and their roles have been limited to housework and childbirth. Indeed, it is difficult to live in a misogynistic society where patriarchy is normalized and women's roles are always expected to serve male interests.

According to UNICEF (2020), family relationships tend to become increasingly strained as a result of lockdown conditions at home, limiting contacts with members of the social network, working at home, school closures, a lack of leisure facilities, and financial insecurity, emphasizing children's and women's vulnerability and increased risk of being exposed to domestic violence. Furthermore, according to the most recent statistics, roughly one-third of all women aged 15 and up have been physically or sexually abused at some point in their lives by an intimate partner, a non-partner, or both. COVID-19 has exacerbated all of the risk factors for Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), such as unemployment and poverty, as well as many of the underlying causes, such as gender stereotypes and detrimental societal norms (UN Women, 2021).

Therefrom, the Bukluran Studentsโ€™ Alliance- Integrated Studentsโ€™ Organization (BSA-ISO) convened โ€œThe Safe Her Movement: A Campaign Heeding the Call of Womenโ€™s Rightsโ€, an online event that provides an active platform to celebrate womanhood while also advocating against the struggles of women and girls, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic. This aims to (1) mandate colleges to provide victims of sexual harassment and/or misbehavior by academics, school officials, and personnel with legal, psychological, and moral assistance and services; (2) amplify the importance of providing SOGIE and gender sensitivity training to all students and university personnel; and (3) engage students both inside and outside of the PLM community in paying attention to the demands of women and girls for equal rights and opportunities for all genders in society. In the efforts of the Bukluran to be in solidarity with the mission of the world in this campaign, the following calls for the prevention of violence against women and girls in and off campus has therefore been outlined:

1. ๐„๐๐ƒ ๐‚๐€๐Œ๐๐”๐’ ๐‡๐€๐‘๐€๐’๐’๐Œ๐„๐๐“: The Bukluran does not allow online or offline campus predators as we strive to raise awareness about campus harassment. We demand that colleges provide legal, psychological, and moral support and services to victims of sexual harassment and/or misbehavior by academics, school officials, and staff. This includes blacklisting pedophiles on campus as well as revoking their teaching licenses. Let us learn more about empowering women without reservations, and stand by them with their heads held high as they face this difficult world together.

2. ๐†๐„๐๐ƒ๐„๐‘ ๐„๐๐”๐€๐‹๐ˆ๐“๐˜ ๐๐Ž๐–!: As we fight for gender equality, the Bukluran advocates for the establishment of gender-neutral safe spaces in academia. We urge schools to implement gender sensitivity training and other measures that promote gender equality and debunk misconceptions. Let us work together to lobby for clear and consistent training guidelines that will result in safe spaces that care for and center people of all genders.

3. ๐๐€๐๐€๐„ ๐๐€๐Œ๐€๐!: The Bukluran will always argue for the right of all genders to freedom of expression and opinion, that all genders should be treated equally and without discrimination, and that all women should feel safe and supported in their lives. This is so that everyone, regardless of gender, may be the best version of themselves and receive all the help and support they need.
As the national pandemic continues to worsen, as well as the situation of women and children in this society, greater action on the part of the youth will be needed. Hence, the Bukluran, in collaboration with PLM, aspires to achieve a
