COLORS WILL DO THE TRICK!

Imagine you see an image or painting of a landscape with the shades of black and white. Can you determine what message that it wants to convey? Can you tell if it shows good or bad weather? Does it take your breath away? Could you possibly feel something with that picture that has no color? Well, there's nothing. You'll be only contemplating that image, feeling confused on what its purpose in being plastered on a wall looking dull and lifeless.

Colors can really make a big difference when you paint. Manipulating colors that you want to use help you to ease that emotion you've felt and devote it to other people's hearts with your artwork. Color symbolizes something and depending on the mood of an artist, his or her artworks can sway other people's feelings whether it's about happiness, pain, or telling a story. Just like Pablo Picasso's Blue Period and Cubism, Henri Matisse's Fauvism, Claude Monet's Impressionism, and many more! Their artworks had great impact through these generations and influenced a lot of artists to adapt their techniques in making their painting look lively and unique and also to convey emotions and ideas in accordance with using colors and the ways they wanted it to turn out as a painting.

Well, think of a blank white paper, and when you dab it just a little bit of color, it makes a difference. This way, it would easily catch your attention as it gives personality the same way as the audience watches the paintings that are plastered on a white wall. Let's say, you have a drawing of a woman smiling widely but there's no color, you can see that there's no special about it. But then, if you apply colors on it, it will look more alive, more beautiful and happier. The reason for using color as we paint is because it enhances the personality of a painting, and helps us to express our emotions, thoughts, and inspirations no matter the ways we apply it on a canvas. It shows the creativity that we have as we use our imaginations that are outside of this world.

Colors help to create visual harmony, contrast, and tension. It guides the people's eyes to learn and understand the perception of an artwork and connects the gap between the artist's narrative and the viewer's interpretation. As an artist, there are no rules and limitations in making art, especially using colors as one of the main elements in painting something. We can paint with our creative minds and with the help of colors that define our artworks convey deep meanings and emotions. Colorless is lifeless, colorful is wonderful!

FILIPINO TECHNIQUES IN PAINTING.

Filipino paintings are a reflection of the country's rich cultural heritage, blending indigenous traditions with influences from colonial periods. These artworks often employ a variety of techniques that have been passed down through generations, resulting in a diverse array of styles and expressions. In this matter, we will explore some of the key techniques used in Filipino paintings, from traditional to contemporary.

Filipino painters use layering and glazing to create depth and luminosity in their works. This technique involves building up layers of paint to gradually enhance colors and tones, while glazing adds transparency and depth. Artists like Fernando Amorsolo mastered this technique to capture the beauty of the Philippine countryside in their landscapes and portraits.

Another common technique in Filipino paintings is bold brushwork and impasto, where artists use thick, textured brushstrokes to create dynamic surfaces. This adds a tactile quality to the artwork, engaging viewers on a sensory level. with Impasto, applying paint in thick layers, sculpts the canvas, creating a three-dimensional effect. Filipino artist Juan Luna used these techniques to convey drama and emotion in his historical paintings.

The techniques used in Filipino paintings are as diverse and vibrant as the culture they represent. From layering and glazing to bold brushwork and impasto, these techniques contribute to the unique visual language of Filipino art. As artists continue to innovate and explore new methods, the tradition of Filipino painting remains a vital part of the country's artistic landscape, reflecting its history, values, and aspirations. Through the preservation and appreciation of these techniques, we ensure that Filipino artistry continues to thrive and inspire future generations.

IMPORTANCE OF TRADITIONAL ART

In a world where technology is developing at a rapid pace and trends continue to evolve, traditional art continues to be captivating. It includes artistic forms, processes, and techniques that have been maintained by particular communities within a country or culture. Traditional art still attracts the human mind and cultural barriers, from the bright colors of paints to the fine details of every composition.

As traditional art is basically a cultural identity, it assures protection in preserving cultural heritage. The art forms act as a connection between the past, present, and future, bringing us back to our ancestors and inspiring us continually. They are the very core of cultural memory, allowing us to stay attached to our roots despite the world's fast-paced environment. It becomes important to think about the continuing impact of traditional forms of art and the significance of their preservation in a fast-paced industrialization and technological advancement. Studying traditional art helps us understand our history and impact as individuals. Furthermore, through appreciating traditional art from other parts of the world, we try to acquire empathy, respect for cultural diversity.

Painting is one the most common forms of traditional art. It is a kind of artistic expression where images or compositions are created by applying color and other materials using paint brushes to a surface, usually a canvas, paper, wood, or wall. Paintings can show many kinds of subjects, such as story-telling scenarios, abstract pieces, still lifes, and landscapes. An artist's observations of the world that surrounds, imagination, experiences in life, core memories, or cultural influences can all serve as inspiration for a painting's subject matter.

Generally, traditional art is important because it is an example of the creativity, culture, and expression of individuals. It improves our quality of life, improves perspectives, and serves as a constant reminder of the common ability of art to inspire, educate, and collaborate with people.

2 KEY CONTRASTS IN PAINTING STYLES: AMORSOLO VS. FRANCISCO

In the competitive world of painting, Filipinos prove their worth alongside international artists, showcasing exceptional talent. Two well-known Filipino artists that came to mind, standing out for their distinctive styles are Fernando Amorsolo and Carlos “Botong” Francisco. While both are renowned in traditional arts, their approaches to painting couldn't be more different. Let's explore two key contrasts between the artworks of Amorsolo and Francisco, highlighting their unique contributions to Philippine art history.

Firstly, we have an emphasis on subject matter. It is evident in Amorsolo's paintings by their primary focus on depicting serene rural scenes, often portraying the simplicity and beauty of traditional Filipino life. His paintings feature flourishing landscapes, sunny countryside settings, and portraits of rural folk engaged in daily activities, particularly women. On the contrary, Francisco explored a broader range of subjects including historical events, Filipino folklore, and urban life. His works often depict scenes of Philippine history, mythology, and cultural traditions, showcasing a deeper engagement with social and political themes.

Next is the stylistic approach of each painter. Amorsolo's approach is marked by romanticism and realism, utilizing soft lines, subtle colors, and natural lighting to create a serene and nostalgic atmosphere. In contrast, Francisco's style is more dynamic and bolder, blending social realism and modernism. His compositions feature strong lines, bold colors, and a sense of movement, reflecting a more expressive form of painting.

The distinctive painting styles of Fernando Amorsolo and Carlos Francisco showcase the rich diversity of Philippine artistry, with each artist making their mark on the global platform. While Amorsolo romanticized the simplicity of rural life, Francisco’s portrayals confront the complexities of Philippine society. Together, they create balance in the world of traditional arts.
