Para sa Lahat, AKSYON ang SOLUSYON!
A member of the Cotabato City Youth Development Alliance (CCYDA), the Office of the City Agriculturist - Cotabato City initiated a skills development and income opportunity training for 20 Out-of-School Youth of Cotabato City in partnership with Rio Grande Pusaw Handicraft Association on August 20, 2024. The training program entitled "Handi-Cash (Creative Arts for Sustainable Hanap-buhay) Making" was designed to capacitate OSYs in handicraft making using water lily as primary raw material and to turn this as an alternative source of income.
At the end of the training, OSY-participants were able to make their own handicraft such as souvenir bags and pouches.
The Office of the City Agriculturist recognizes the needs and opportunities through our OSYs especially children of farmers, and will continue to develop programs to help them in agri-based skills development.

Agribusiness Interns | Vermicomposting Area
The team of the On-the-Job Trainees from the Cotabato State University College of Agriculture and Fisheries took part in preparing the composting area of the Office of the City Agriculturist. Under the supervision of the office, the team of 8 Agribusiness Fourth Year Students prepared the plot to be used for a vermicomposting project - a project in partnership with NGOs and local government offices.
The project will use vermicomposting as a method of composting the collected scraps of vegetables and fruits, soil, and paper-using worms (African Night Crawler) to break down and turn into organic-rich soil. The worms eat the waste and will produce compost, which becomes a supplement in improving soil health.
Maraming Salamat!
The City Government of Cotabato officially launched the Climate-Smart Farmer Field School (CSFFS) Training Program on July 7, 2024. The training program is designed to enhance capacity of rice farmers on varying climate situations. In partnership with MAFAR – SGA and supported by the USAID – Climate Resilient Cities through Conservation International, the 4-month during training will handle 25 rice farmers and agricultural technicians, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and adaptive practices for rice production.

HISTORICAL JULY 26, 2024
In time of celebrating the World's Mangrove Day — July 26, 2024, Office of the City Agriculturist, Conservation International, Kutawato Greenland Initiatives, other City Government Agencies, and partners in higher education, youth groups, BARMM agencies, BLGU, Uniformed Personnel, and CSOs have come together to inaugurate the Mangrove Nursery Project at Purok Timaco, Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City.
Recognizing the absence of local producers for mangroves and the threat in our coastal resources, the 10,000 seedlings-capable nursery was proposed, designed to be the source of local mangrove propagules suitable to the coastal condition; provide income opportunities, and promote community awareness and their involvement.
Following the groundbreaking, the 517 volunteer-stakeholders proceeded to Purok Buaya-Buaya for the symbolic planting of mangroves — setting in place preventive measures against water hyacinth and harsh conditions to increase protection of the planted seedlings.
The historic moment will not guarantee a certainty, but with persistency, climate resiliency will become a reality, gradually. Resiliency for Cotabato City, lets come for it together, let's have it together.
Our sincerest gratitude to our partners. Mabuhay!
