“Our fragile planet is hanging by a thread. We are still knocking on the door of climate catastrophe. It is time to go into emergency mode — or our chance of reaching net-zero will itself be zero.” - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said at the recent UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). 🌎

Although the situation may seem disheartening, there is reason for optimism: individuals have the ability to take action and shift the course of events. Niklas Hagelberg, UNEP’s Climate Change Coordinator, stresses the importance of collective action, emphasizing the need to pressure leaders and institutions to transition rapidly to a low-carbon economy.

𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙏𝙤𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 🔥🌡

In a research study published by Thompson et. al. (2023) entitled “Ambient Temperature and Mental Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” that extreme heat can have various effects on mental health. These include heightened irritability, symptoms of depression, and an increased risk of su***de.

Additionally, extreme heat can influence behavior, leading to higher levels of aggression, domestic violence, and substance use. Studies have also found associations between high temperatures and issues such as memory problems, reduced attention span, and slower reaction times. Furthermore, difficulties with sleep caused by extreme heat can worsen existing mental health symptoms.

The Province of Pangasinan through the Center for Pangasinan Studies presented the 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐬 (𝟏𝟓𝟖𝟕-𝟏𝟖𝟗𝟖) today at the Gymnasium of PHINMA University of Pangasinan.

The first Lecture Series of 2024 was concluded by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨 𝐃. 𝐑𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐬, Pangasinan Polytechnic College's History Professor and Interim President, who was introduced by the CPS Executive Director, Dr. Perla E. Legaspi.

To represent the L-NU College of Arts and Sciences, the 1st Year students of BA Political Science together with BA Communication, BS Psychology, and CAS Instructors, attended and participated in the event as they expand their knowledge in the development of local communities in Pangasinan, focusing on San Nicolas and Malico.
