We'll go live in a bit. 🔥

This year we have encountered a lot of challenges in our lives, physically, socially, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. This year, we also launch a series of online discussions about mental health. To end this year, UniVERSEsity, SK Inarawan, and SK Marlou Barrete, prepared something special for everyone—a mental health webinar. Together with its theme: Fighting Mental Health Stigma.

We invited someone who is an advocate about mental health—Ms. Arriane Alvarez. Tomorrow, December 22, 2021, at 2 PM.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's event as we announce the winners of our essay writing contest and poster-making contest.

Silence is powerful. It’s better to be silent rather than blurting out 'in-the-moment' feelings which may be hurtful or make things worse.

Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT)

Our millennial youth are knowledgeable, talented and optimistic. With these kind of characteristics, we can encourage them to open up their minds about the common issues regarding drugs and terrorism.

To our PNP lecturers, thank you for making the youth of Inarawan understand the cause and effects of these problems that could center the destruction of our society.

See you again soon!

Take a break, read a book, listen to a song, have a conversation with someone, indulge in a hobby, meditate, have a laugh or do something that you love, and relax for a few moments everyday.

Make it a point to practice self-care.
Make an appointment with yourself.

There's a sense of satisfaction as an ambassador for you're making a difference. You’re a person that’s unique. God has given you a specific set of people to reach, help and guide. There’s a contribution that only YOU can make. People that only YOU can reach. If you don’t say it, it won’t get said. It’s that simple.

Y4MH, I agree with you 💯 percent!

READ | “When a joke is made at the expense of a mental health condition, creators should be wary…trivializing issues related to mental health is something to avoid.” (Smith, 2019)

The Youth for Mental Health Coalition (Y4MH) expresses its disappointment towards Viva Films for producing a highly-insensitive depiction of mental health in the poster of their upcoming film, Tililing. As we educate the public on mental health, we should ensure that the narratives we choose to share would avoid reinforcing false beliefs and stereotypes on mental health and people with lived experience on mental health concerns.

Y4MH stands by its call for the media and the government to create comprehensive standards and systems in the portrayal (and reporting) of mental health in films and TV. We call on VIVA Films and the creators of Tililing to reconsider their current representation of mental health. We also call on the Department of Health to urgently roll out mental health promotion initiatives as stated in RA 11036 or the Philippine Mental Health Law.

While we understand the motivation behind creating the film is to raise awareness and convey that mental health conditions are real, the desired message was lost in translation because of the lack of sensitivity in the process.

Approaching Tililing’s release date, we hope that its creators would collaborate with mental health professionals and service user organizations with regard to the final output in order to best ensure that mental health conditions are properly represented.

We hope that VIVA Films, operating on core values such as professionalism, honesty, and integrity, will be an ally of people living with mental health conditions. We also hope that the creators of Tililing consider conducting talkback sessions after the show to further contextualize and strengthen the message of mental health promotion.

We all have a significant role to play in ending the stigma on mental health. For platforms with greater influence, the responsibility is heavier.

READ: Use the STOP criteria to recognize attitudes and actions that support the stigma of mental health conditions. It’s easy, just ask yourself if what you hear:

S-tereotypes people with mental health conditions (that is, assumes they are all alike rather than individuals)?
T-rivializes or belittles people with mental health conditions and/or the condition itself?
O-ffends people with mental health conditions by insulting them?
P-atronizes people with mental health conditions by treating them as if they were not as good as other people?

By using non-stigmatizing language, those who are experiencing challenges may experience fewer barriers to accessing supports. -CMHA

Please be advised accordingly.

Statement of Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones
On the Opening of Classes | via DepEd Philippines

This morning, we received a memorandum from the Office of the President that the President has already made the decision in respect to the recommendation that I have submitted to him on August 6, in response to the implications of imposition of Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and in the provinces of Cavite, Bulacan, Laguna and Rizal.

As per the memorandum, the President has given approval to the recommendation of DepEd. Thus, we will implement such a decision to defer school opening to October 5 pursuant to Republic Act No. 11480. We shall use the deferment to provide relief to the logistical limitations faced by the areas placed under MECQ and to fill in the remaining gaps of the school opening that we are currently addressing.

Areas outside MECQ are directed to continue their orientations, dry runs, and delivery of learning resources so that we will be ready for the opening of classes on October 5.

We trust that this is the final adjustment of the school opening. Even with the implementation of MECQ, we will use this time to make the necessary adjustments and ensure that all preparations have been made for the successful opening of classes for School Year 2020-2021.
