𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦: TUP Cavite storms to victory; secures top spots at JPSME General Assembly Competition

TUP Cavite clinched the 1st runner-up position at the Junior Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (JPSME) General Assembly Cavite Chapter 2023 quiz bee, scoring an impressive 16 out of 20 points. This accomplishment proved sufficient to surpass competitors from various parts of Cavite.

Several universities affiliated with the PSME Student Unit from Cavite convened for the annual online assembly. Among the participants were EAC, LPU-C, DLSU-D, PUP-Alfonso, PUP-Maragondon, and TUPC.

As part of this event, the team quiz bee competition featured TUPC representatives led by Johnres Hipe, along with Jjhn Michael Jimenez and Ricky Palacios, showcasing their intelligence among other mechanical engineering students from different campuses. They were under the advisory guidance of Engr. Jomari Picar from the Department of Engineering.

According to Hipe, their strategy focused on calculator techniques and developing their team chemistry, in addition to the advice provided by their coach. Meanwhile, Engr. Picar stated that every competition served as an opportunity for them to reflect on their team’s weaknesses and strengths.

In addition to the quiz bee, JPSME Cavite organized a 3D Cad Modelling event. Marco Paras, a 2nd-year ME student and TUPC representative, secured the 1st runner-up position with 67 points, narrowly missing the championship. Paras mentioned that the event's toughest aspect was navigating the device, a challenge he encountered during the competition.

Despite being the newest organization on campus, PSME-TUPC-SU demonstrated determination in bringing pride and honor to the TUPC.

𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦: TUPC Educ Students shine despite narrow miss at PAFTE R4A 15th Regional Quiz Bee

The Philippine Association for Teacher Education Region 4A (PAFTE R4A) witnessed a gathering of 49 college and university groups in Calamba, Laguna on December 8, for its 15th Regional Quiz Bee. Among them, a trio of talented students from the Technological University of the Philippines - Cavite (TUPC) surfaced as fierce contenders in the intense academic battle.

Representing TUPC were Miki Abreu from BSIE-ICT-3B, Michael Angelo Salazar from BSIE-ICT-3A, and Francis Dominick Reyes from BTVTED-ET-4A, accompanied by their seasoned coach, Mr. Zaldy Ronquillo. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Benefrido Reyes, the Department of Industrial Education Head, who extended support, as well as faculty members from the said department.

Future Educators’ Organization rallied around their representatives, with students from the second to fourth year together with their adviser, Mr. Arjay Dimapilis, turning out in full force to bolster their fellow classmates and colleagues. Despite an impressive performance, the TUPC team secured the 5th position, falling short due to a triple tie that prevented their ascent into the top three.

In an exclusive interview, Francis Dominick Reyes shared insights into their preparation process, “Binigyan kami ng mga resources and reviewers ng mga teachers, at pinahiram ng library. Habang nasa biyahe at event place, tuloy lang din ang review”, he explained. “I have no regrets sa naging performance namin. Though, may times talaga na may panghihinayang since 2 points lang [ang] lamang ng first place. Still, I am very satisfied sa naging performance namin, and I am very proud of my teammates and our supporters”, when asked about his experience.

With the highest score pegged at 23 points, the triple tiebreaker stood at 22 points, leaving TUPC with a commendable score of 21. Despite narrowly missing the podium, the TUPC delegates showcased determination and teamwork, earning the respect and admiration of their peers and mentors alike.

𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦: TUP Cavite USG attains approval for three resolutions at the FSG’s First General Assembly

In a recent gathering held in Mabitac, Laguna, TUP Cavite USG successfully passed three resolutions at the Federation of Student Governments' First General Assembly held from October 27-29. The assembly included delegates from USG Manila, Cavite, Taguig, and Visayas. Hon. Joven P. Garces, the Student Regent, presided over the plenary, with USG Cavite’s President, Christine Jade Lumaban, and Vice President, Renz Jasper Hencis, guiding their officers in advocating for their proposed resolutions.

The first resolution, FSG Resolution No. 15 s. 2023, New Dress Code Regulation, authored by Edzil Ababon, recommends allowing TUP students to wear civilian attire as an alternative to traditional school uniforms. While students can still choose traditional uniforms, a TUP logo/patch-bearing uniform is required every Monday for Flag ceremony exercises.

The second resolution, FSG Resolution No. 16 s. 2023, New Hair Code Policy, presented by Karen Pabrowada, aims to establish a new hair code policy. This resolution strives to empower students to express themselves freely through their preferred hairstyles, promoting inclusivity and fostering a more open and accepting environment within the university.

The third resolution, FSG Resolution No. 17 s. 2023, Standardized Form for Student complaints, proposed by Sean Lester Lavarias, advocates for a standardized form for student complaints. The goal is to provide students with a more convenient means of filing complaints while ensuring the confidentiality of their identities between the complainant and the STRAW senator/committee.

However, these FSG Resolutions are anticipated to be presented to the TUP Board of Regents for approval.

In line with this, TUP Cavite USG encourages all TUPcians to shair their thoughts by participating in two surveys related to the FSG resolutions.
