A total of 18 FSP scholars achieved their academic goals this Academic Year 2023-2024.
Ten scholars from Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology crossed the stage on June 27, 2024, three of whom earned Latin Honors (Cum Laude).
Eight more scholars from Davao del Norte State College added their names to the FSP Alumni list on July 05, 2024, including 2 graduating Cum Laude and 1 achieving the prestigious Magna Cum Laude distinction.

Nash R. Habel has earned the prestigious distinction of graduating Magna Cum Laude. In recognition of this remarkable accomplishment, she will receive a monetary award of โฑ30,000.00.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) XIโHuman Resource and Management Unit (HRMU)โFisheries Scholarship Program (FSP) successfully conducted a Year-end Evaluation and Learning and Development Intervention for the existing FSP scholars of BFAR XI.
Yearly, BFAR XI-FSP conducts a year-end evaluation and academic performance review activity in order to gauge the scholarsโ academic standings, address the prevailing issues and concerns, and reinforce learning and development interventions to boost their leadership skills and positively contribute to scholars' overall wellbeing.
FSP scholars from Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) and Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) and alumni from Zamboanga State College and Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) and SPAMAST attended the year-end activity.
On Day 1, BFAR XI ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ซ-๐ข๐ง-๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ข๐ kicked-off the event with his welcome message highlighting the main purpose of the event which is to enhance learning opportunities and camaraderie among scholars. โThis is also an avenue for BFAR XI to assess and evaluate academic performance, address various issues faced by scholars, and come up with possible solutions,โ RD Garcia said.
๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐๐ ๐๐๐ณ ๐. ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ , BFAR FSP consultant, was invited as a guest speaker. She tackled the importance of values towards success, emphasizing the five (5) moral values in a studentโs life such as honesty, integrity, empathy, compassion and responsibility. โMaintaining these values and beliefs encourages the students to persevere through difficult times and to work hard to achieve their goalsโ said Dr. Manalang.
Two (2) resource speakers, ๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐. ๐๐๐๐๐ง๐จ of Sunlife Inc. and ๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ. ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐. ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฅ of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), were invited to discuss the topics on financial literacy and cybersecurity & data privacy, respectively. These topics aim to equip the scholars with essential skills and knowledge in managing their finances and making sound financial decision, and moreover to raise awareness regarding the importance of having a safe and secure digital environment, especially nowadays where social media and other digital platforms are becoming mainstream.
FSP Recognition Night was also organized to give merit to those scholars who showcased exemplary academic performance and alumni who recently passed the 2023 Licensure Examination for Fisheries Professionals.
On Day 2, the BFAR XI team headed by ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ณ๐จ๐ง๐ and BFAR Central Office personnel headed by ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ง ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฅ with ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ , BFAR FSP Consultant, facilitated the monitoring and evaluation of existing BFAR XI FSP scholars. Many issues and concerns of the scholars were brought up during the open forum and were taken into account on the next meeting for the amendment of Fisheries Administrative Order (FAO) 257-1, otherwise known as the Fisheries Scholarship Program (FSP) Guidelines.
During the open forum ๐๐ซ. ๐๐จ๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฌ, of BFAR XI, and a first batch of Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG), shared his experience as a beneficiary of FSP. โOur stipend before was two thousand pesos and I can say that determination became my key in order to fulfill my dreams.โ said Mr. Manes. โAfter graduation, I wasnโt immediately hired by the bureau. I worked in many different companies until BFAR notified me for a job vacancy, an opportunity for me to be part of the agency which I really am grateful of. And now, I am a regular employee at the BFAR XI.โ he added.
Election of BFAR XI FSP Scholars Association was held to further enhance the scholarsโ leadership skills and provide a set of officers where other scholars can raise their issues and concerns. These officers are expected to be the lead voice of their co-scholars towards a more effective and efficient communication between the scholars and BFAR XI. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ก๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ง ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐, 2nd Year, of SPAMAST, was elected as the President, while ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ก ๐
. ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ, 3rd Year, of DNSC, was elected as the Vice President.
Closing remarks was given by ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ณ๐จ๐ง, BFAR XI Regional FSP Coordinaror. She expressed her deep appreciation to all people, schools, organization, guests, speakers, BFAR XI Personnel, BFAR Central Office, alumni and the existing scholars who made this activity a very memorable one.
BFAR XI โ HRMU Fisheries Scholarship Program proudly congratulates all new Registered Fisheries Professionals. The results were released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on November 6, 2023. Among 716 (33.71%) successful examinees are 6 scholars from BFAR region XI.

Davao del Norte State College recently held their 45th Commencement Exercises with the theme "Ripples of Change, Charting New Frontiers", at the DNSC Sports Complex on July 07, 2023.
Among 949 conferred graduates, six were BFAR XI scholars namely Ian Juls Andoy, Jebie Go, Eloisa Mae Luardo, Lovely Kaye Gabronino, Leann Casandra Pesidas, and Lovely Manguray.
Ms. Manguray graduated with Latin Honors and pursuant to FAO 257-1 s. 2020 otherwise known as Fisheries Scholarship Program Guidelines, she will be given monetary incentive of Php 20,000 for graduating as Cum Laude.
โAs a BFAR scholarship grantee, I am filled with gratitude for the wonderful assistance they provided all throughout my college journey. This scholarship not only removed the financial burden of my study from the start, but it also encouraged me to pursue my aspirations unreservedly. Because to BFAR's generosity, I was able to focus on my studies, participate in significant extracurricular activities, and form long-lasting relationships that have molded my future. This scholarship has been a beacon of hope, illuminating the route to achievement, and I will be eternally grateful for the doors it has opened and the opportunities it has affordedโ said Ms. Manguray. โTo my fellow students, never underestimate the power of believing in yourself and the support you can find around you. Whatever obstacles you face, realize that your dreams are within your graspโ she added.

Congratulations to the ten BFAR XI Scholars who graduated from the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology during their 37th Commencement Exercises held on July 6, 2023 at ABC Gym, Malita, Davao Occidental.
Scholars were able to receive special awards for outstanding research, and extension programs, and were also recognized for their active participation, receiving various awards in Business Pitching Competition in 2022.

Ma. Jasmin O. Salino, of Palompon Institute of Technology โ Tabango, a BFAR XI FCEG scholar, recently received her degree in Fisheries, graduating as Cum Laude on Jun 27, 2023.
Pursuant to FAO 257-1 s. 2020 otherwise known as Fisheries Scholarship Program Guidelines, Ms. Salino is entitled to claim monetary incentive of Php 20,000 for graduating as Cum Laude.
For reference, as stipulated in the FAO 257-1 s. 2020 under policies and protocols, BFAR scholars who graduated with excellent academic distinction will be given the following monetary award: SUMMA CUM LAUDE โ PHP 50,000.00; MAGNA CUM LAUDE โ PHP 30,000.00 and; CUM LAUDE โ PHP 20,000.00.

Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic Resources (SPAMAST) recently held their Annual Studentsโ In-house Review on June 14-15, 2023. It was set to provide scholastic forum among young researchers to showcase their innovative minds through research.
The scholars were able to take spot in each category of the event:
Ms. ๐๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ง ๐. ๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ฌ placed second in the Oral Presentation Category with their study on Growth Performance and Survival of Siamese Fighting fish (Betta sp.) fed with Daphnia (Daphnia sp.) and Azolla (Azolla pinnata) at different ratio;
Mr. ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ก๐ฎ๐ ๐. ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ข and Ms. ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ง ๐. ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ซ placed second in Policy Brief with their study on Management Practices among Fish Cage Operators in Brgy. Tanglad Sta.Maria Davao Occidental;
Ms. ๐๐๐ฒ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ข๐จ & Ms. ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ข ๐. ๐๐๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐๐ง won the first place in the Poster Category with their study on Aquasilviculture System: Growth and Survival of Mud Crab (Scylla serrata) Reared in Crab Bucket Fed with Different Types of Feeds while ๐๐ง๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐. ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐จ placed third in the same category with her Product Development of Chili Pickled Imbao (Anodontia sp.).

His study, entitled "Sardine By-Product Hydrolysate as Replacement for Commercial Protein Meals in Black-Spotted Grouper Juveniles", won Second Place in the oral presentation competition and bested ten other papers presented during the ZSCMSTโs 6th Undergraduate Research Forum held last June 6, 2023 with the theme: โUpholding the Institutional Thrust: Cultivating the Culture of Research in Pursuit of Academic Excellenceโ.
