SHIP UPDATE | M/V 2GO Magalang & M/V 2GO Masigla of 2GO Travel have finally arrived in the Philippines!

The country's only remaining liner company: 2GO Travel have acquired two ROPAX Liners from South Korea. M/V 2GO Masigla and M/V 2GO Magalang

MV 2GO MAGALANG was the former "Blue Pearl" of Hanil Car Ferry Express - a ferry operator based in South Korea that served the Wandu to Jeju, South Korea and v.v. route. It is a 2002-built vessel made in Japan. The vessel was originally known as Ferry Kyoto 2 of the Meimon Taiyo Car Ferry Co. Ltd of Japan.

She has an overall length of 167 meters, a breadth of 25 meters and a listed gross tonnage of 9788 tons. It was acquired by Hanil Car Ferry Express of Korea from Meimon Taiyo Car Ferry Co Ltd. in 2022 and served the Wandu to Jeju, South Korea and v.v. route until 2023. 2GO Travel has originally joined the bidding process in acquiring this vessel however the Korean Owner has emerged as the winning bidder for acquiring the ex-Ferry Kyoto 2

While M/V 2GO MASIGLA was the former "New Star" of MS Ferry - a ferry operator based in South Korea that served the Busan to Jeju, South Korea and v.v. route. It is a 1999-built vessel made in Japan. The vessel was originally known as Orange Ferry 8 of the Shikoku Ferry Ltd of Japan.

She has an overall length of 163.75 meters, a breadth of 25.6 meters and a listed gross tonnage of 9975 tons. It was acquired by MS Ferry of Korea from Shikoku Ferry Ltd. in 2018 and served the Busan to Jeju, South Korea and v.v. route until 2022. It boasts a very beautiful and spacious interiors with an open to above ceiling from the lobby and staircase towards the topmost deck of the vessel plus an all cabin rooms

The two new vessels of 2GO Travel are currently anchored off the Manila Bay Anchorage area and they are already sporting the current 2GO Livery. A few minor renovations inside will be done (adding passenger gangplank, and typical 2GO interior standards) once it will be cleared from customs inspection and other requirements from the government maritime regulatory agencies.

Once these two new ROPAX Liners will enter service it will finally retire the last remaining SuperFerry vessel: M/V St Therese of Child Jesus (ex-SuperFerry 16) and another ROPAX Vessel in its fleet. (either SMA or SFX)

These new acquisitions are part of 2GO Travel’s ongoing Vessel Modernization Program. They are committed to replace all of its ageing fleet by replacing all its existing ROPAX Vessels (except 2GO Maligaya and 2GO Masagana) with a much better and faster vessels as it will be economical in the longer run rather than to re-engine the existing engines or to buy new sets of engines and replace its systems inside for all of its existing vessels
