MSU-IIT, CED Amphitheatre -- The 1st ASEAN Literary Forum and Cultural Festival took place on October 28, 2024, with facilitation support from KASAMA for the Center for Culture and Arts (CCA).

The event commenced with welcome remarks from Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan, followed by City Councilor Betsey Zalsos and Director Jay Alovera of the Center for Culture and Arts. Dr. Christine Ortega, the founding chair of Mindanao Creative and Cultural Workers Groups, introduced the keynote speaker, H.E. Ambassador of Indonesia, Mr. Agus Widjojo.

Attendees were treated to a vibrant array of performances by the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG), Kalimulan, and the Octava Choral Society. The festival concluded with a celebration of culture and arts, along with insights gained from the keynote address.

The afternoon session featured the Literary Forums, where various speakers shared their knowledge on the significance of culture and literature and their interconnectedness. KASAMA played a crucial role as the secretariat and provided overall coordination, underscoring its dedication to fostering cultural awareness and engagement among students.

In a powerful demonstration of unity and environmental stewardship, the Kataas-taasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA), in collaboration with MSU-IIT’s National Multi-Purpose Cooperative Youth Coop (MSU-IIT NMPC) led the Mangrove Planting and Educational Activity on October 27 along the Marcelo Coastline, Purok 6, Zone 2-A, Baliling, Fuentes, Brgy. Maria Cristina, Iligan City.

This impactful initiative was strengthened by the collective efforts of partners including the Guild of Mining Engineering Students, College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy - Executive Council, Brgy. Maria Cristina LGU, CENRO-Iligan, CEMO-Iligan, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services (OVCSS).

An inspiring educational talk by Ms. Marie Claire Taguic from CENRO Iligan deepened participants' understanding of mangrove ecosystems and the significance of sustainable conservation. A total of 400 mangrove saplings were planted, marking a powerful step toward preserving Iligan’s coastal environment and encouraging a culture of ecological responsibility.

Guided by the Office of the Student Regent Memorandum Order No. 2023-0007, this initiative unites the Student Councils across the Mindanao State University (MSU) System in a shared mission of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The initiative's success relies on stakeholders nurturing the young mangroves and engaging the community in conservation, demonstrating the power of unified action for lasting environmental change.

As we approach the In-Flex Week, let us make the most of our time with the updated guidelines from OVCAA Memo 2024-011. It is important to prioritize your well-being, stay focused, and manage your time effectively for a productive and impactful week ahead.

These updates reflect our discussions with the OVCAA and the recent Academic Planning Committee (APC) meeting. Key changes include the suspension of synchronous classes, non-graded formative assessments, clear instructions and deadlines, and guidelines for laboratory classes.

The campus will remain open for transactions, and the library will be accessible during its regular service hours.

We encourage all IITians to share any concerns or feedback regarding the In-Flex Week implementation through the official KASAMA directory or their respective Executive Councils. Take care during your travels, and stay safe!

In light of ongoing safety assessments across campus facilities, we wish to formally announce that the suspension of classes and all academic activities will be extended through tomorrow, October 26 2024. This decision, confirmed by the Chancellor following KASAMA's inquiry, is due to continued evaluations of building conditions, with some areas currently experiencing power outages.

The NSTP classes will proceed asynchronously on Sunday, as directed by the Chancellor.

We strongly urge everyone to prioritize safety during this period of adverse weather. Please stay indoors if possible, remain vigilant, and monitor official channels for any further updates from the university.

As per the directives of our Chancellor, classes are suspended until further notice. All students are advised to remain in their classrooms and safe spaces.

The SID has been instructed to limit student entry at our gate as classes are currently suspended, and an inspection of debris is underway on campus. This precautionary measure is to ensure everyone’s safety while assessments are conducted. Please stay safe at all times.
