Visited Sitio Iratag in Puerto Princesa with my fellow members for our Rotary club's and the RCMC Foundation's RCMC Rotary Homes for the Tagbanua tribe (72 IP families) who lost their homes during typhoon Odette.

It's nice to be back to one of the projects I am very much involved in (as project chairman) - the First 1000 Days of Life (F1000Days) in Barangay Pilar, Las Piñas. My Rotary club started this annual project in 2019 but was stopped last year due to covid. Happy to be doing this again this 2022 for our 3rd batch of beneficiaries. The F1000Days aims to address malnutrition of indigent pregnant women including teenaged-mothers. We give a 90-day milk supplement and other nutritious food/snacks to help the undernourish mothers improve their health while in their 2nd/3rd trimester of pregnancy. Good nutrition and the mother's emotional and mental wellness during pregnancy are very important for the child's development and his/her future. The project also includes bi-monthly lecture and counseling on proper nutrition, prenatal care, hygiene, as well as regular check-up/consultation.

Sharing with you the launch of our Rotary project, "First 1000 Days of Life". This is the second year of our project with a new batch of beneficiaries, 10 pregnant women, including teenaged- and first time mothers, in their second trimester of pregnancy for a 90-day milk supplement program and counseling on nutrition and proper hygiene.

As chair of the project, i am thankful to all those who made it possible for us, the Rotary Club of Makati Central to continue this notable program -- our partner barangay, Brgy Pilar Nutrition Committee, Pilar Health Center, and our Brgy Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Mhillen who was a big help in implementing our successful pilot project of First 1000 Days in 2019-2020 in Brgy. Pilar, Las Piñas.

It was challenging for us to do service projects the past months and to this day but we can not let the pandemic beat us. Life goes on, we have to live "with the new normal" and move on. We in Rotary will continue doing what we do best - helping others 🙂
