After two years of postponement due to the pandemic, the National Book Awards is back!
The National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Manila Critics Circle (MCC) are delighted to announce that the 39th National Book Awards Ceremony will be held on July 30, Saturday, at 6:00 in the evening.
Established in 1982, The National Book Award is one of the most esteemed prizes a Filipino author can receive. This year, the awards will cover titles published in 2019 and 2020.
Winners will be selected from each of the 25 categories. A total of 110 Philippine-authored books have a chance to bag the prestigious prize, with one to seven finalists per category.
The ceremony will be held through an online broadcast at NBDB’s official page at National Book Development Board - Philippines. It will also be simultaneously streamed on YouTube at Books Philippines.
“After more than two years, the National Book Awards is back. It’s an important—and overdue—celebration of Filipino literary talent and of the book as an art form. I know we all would have loved for this comeback to be held in person, but I invite everyone to join us on July 30 to be delighted, once again, by Filipino authors and literature,” said NBDB Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade.
The event will be hosted by television hosts and radio broadcasters Sam Oh and Tina Ryan.

From the 4 original members, the number of volunteer storytellers grew exponentially over the course of the year. Now, the Book Nook Koronadal have a total of twenty five (25) storytellers and two technical staff who will be visiting community sites in the city of Koronadal. After these photos were taken, the four teams visited the elementary schools of Koronadal City namely Carpenter Hill Elementary School, Engkong Elementary School, Mabini Elementary School, and Crossing Diaz Elementary School to showcase their individual chosen Filipino stories to the students of the aforementioned schools.
Last May 27, 2022, the Book Nook Koronadal conducted a Storytelling Demonstration at KNCHS SHS showcasing the skills and aptitude of volunteer community storytellers. The activity hone and harness the creativity and craft of the volunteers who will be assigned to the different storytelling sites in Koronadal City. Some Filipino authored stories like Si Pagong at si Matsing, Monica Dalos Dalos, Si Hugo ang Pahamak na Hunyango, Tiktaktok at Pikpakbum, Ang Itim na Kuting, at Si Daginding were selected by these vivacious and exemplary storytellers to perform live on-stage. We'll surely paint our city, one story at a time. Kudos volunteers!
📣 We invite publishers, printers, editors, and anyone engaged in book publishing to join us as we discuss the proposed amendments on Republic Act 8047 or the Book Publishing Industry Development Act, which was enacted in 1995.
With new technology and demands of our time, it might be better to review and improve this law. We'd like to get your feedback so that these proposed changes can become responsive to the needs of our book industry and help in its further development.
