The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) announces the commencement of the Regional Selection Process for the Gawad KALASAG for Special Awards for the following categories:
1. Volunteer Organizations
2. Local Civil Society Organizations
3. Peopleโs Organizations
4. Local Government Emergency Management and Response Teams (GEMS)
5. National Government Hospitals
6. Local Government Hospitals
7. Private Hospitals
8. Higher Education Institutions
9. Public Elementary Schools
10. Public High Schools
11. Private Organizations
12. Heroic Act (Individual/Group Posthumous)
13. Special Recognition for Individuals and Organizations

Deadline of entries is on July 15, 2024.

OCD5 conducts Gawad KALASAG Seal for LDRRMC/Os field validation in Camarines Sur
Pili, Camarines Sur - A team from the Office of Civil Defense 5, led by Louis Jonas M. Lauraya, is currently in Camarines Sur conducting field validation of the LGUs that qualified during the desk evaluation.
Over the next few weeks, the team will visit all the provinces of the Bicol Region to carry out this activity, which is an integral part of the Gawad KALASAG.
After the field validation, the results will be forwarded to the Gawad KALASAG National Validation Committee for the final evaluation.
Which LGUs will receive the prestigious award for DRRM? Let's wait and see!

HAPPENING NOW| The Regional Gawad KALASAG Secretariat conducts Regional Desk Evaluation on the submitted entries for GK Seal for LDRRMCO Category.
Regional Validation Committee convenes for a 6-weeks regional desk evaluation starting June 19 until August 4, 2023 at the Handyong Hall, OCD 5, Camp General Simeon A. Ola, Legazpi City.
This activity aims to assess and evaluate all submitted entries received from the 102 LDRRMCOs including their Means of Verifications (MOVs) vis-a-vis their self-rating.
Regional Validators is composed of the Office of Civil Defense 5 and representatives from the four (4) Vice-Chairs namely DILG, DOST, DSWD and NEDA.

101 LGUs submit entries for 23rd Gawad KALASAG Seal
LEGAZPI CITY - 101 out of 120 Local Government Units in the Bicol Region submitted their entries for the 23rd Gawad KALASAG Seal for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
Office of Civil Defense 5, through the Policy Development and Planning Section headed by Louis Jonas M. Lauraya, provided Technical Assistance to the LGUs to help improve their Mode of Verifications which are pertinent in the assessment for Gawad KALASAG.
Regional Director Claudio L. Yucot is happy that 84.17% of the LGUs in the region have submitted, indicating their desire to be awardees this year. Earlier, Dir. Yucot challenged the LGUs to improve their entries and aim for the Gawad KALASAG Seal.
The submitted entries will go through a Regional Desk Evaluation and those LGUs with fully compliant and beyond compliant ratings will then be subjected to field validation. After which, the Regional Validation Committee, will endorse the entries to the National Validation Committee for the final deliberation.
The Regional Validation Committee is composed of representatives from Office of Civil Defense 5, Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Economic Development Authority, Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of Science and Technology.
Last year, only 12 LGUs from Region 5 received the award.
