LABIMBAKAS is a series of books and installations by the graduating batch of PHSA’s Creative Writing students.
The fossil is the remainder of an organism preserved in earth. It traces an impression of its body: shell, exoskeleton, leaves, bone, and root. Similar to the study of these remains, the five Grade 12 students examine the trails of growth and loss – in their lands and on their bodies – in order to tell new stories.
These five books, like the rings within a tree trunk, serve as markers in the passage of time. They revisit the ghosts of long-gone architectures, of covered wounds, of technology and perception, of identity, and of love, in hopes to unveil something new. Or otherwise, to remember something we have known all along.
Catch the book launch at Mt. Makiling on June 14, 7PM. (May libreng pagkain)
"I. Am. Here: Seen & Not Seen" is a collection of works by the Senior High students of the Philippine High School for the Arts.
This exhibit aims to resist the prejudice we face and the notions that define us as adolescents, as daughters and sons, as q***r youth, and as art scholars. We re-collect and unravel our personal histories to explore and deconstruct hierarchies, ideologies, and concepts that have revolved around us, molding us, and urging us to the creation of the works we now exhibit.
To see, to unravel, to pay attention— this is our endless and proper work. To make our presence known, to confront fragments of our interpersonal narratives and transform them into the pigments that make up our art. Through our personal encounters with our represented groups, we form connections with our chosen communities.
Above all else, we see our presence as vital in breaking cycles of trauma, conformity, and institution. Through the unraveling of these shared narratives, we as artists reaffirm our presence each depicting the visuals of our stories — seen and unseen.
Catch the exhibit at the Parola U.P. Fine Arts Gallery at UP Diliman from June 6 to June 10. The opening reception will be on June 6 at 4 pm!

In retrospect, artistic growth and the search for connexion could only be achieved once trials, obstacles, and challenges are encountered voluntarily with a sense of integrity, passion, and soul. After six years of steadfast collaboration and insightful camaraderie, we have witnessed, gained an appreciation, and acquired sympathetic awareness of each others' creative discovery and communication. As we venture onto different paths, the perdurable tapestry of experience and familiarity will continually shape our artistic pilgrimage in a kaleidoscope of love, art and meaning.
MERAKI (v.) to do something with passion, creativity, and love, leaving a piece of oneself in the work. A state of optimal experience, where one is fully engaged in the activity and finds deep satisfaction in the process itself, rather than the outcome.

A culmination of studies, a marker of transitory times post-pandemic, and an honoring of community, BANYUHAY: Paghabi ng mga Diwa is the final series of productions by PHSA's graduating batch, Francisco Coching-Jose Maria Zaragoza.
Transformation is only made possible with the process of returning. These projects look back to our roots and personal histories not only to retell these narratives, but also to deconstruct them. We delve into the muck of memory and connection the way the caterpillar surrenders its form within the chrysalis, and create new stories as the butterfly breaks through.
Its title BANYUHAY being derived from the phrase "bagong anyo ng buhay", the 36 student-artists of Batch Cozara interweave research and recollection to portray the love and pains of metamorphosis.
