OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE SLSU COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES – COMMISSION ON ELECTIONS ON THE INVALIDATING OF BALLOTS AND THE CLOSING OF THE ARTSCI STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS, 2024 – 2025

Greetings of Peace and Solidarity!

The CAS Comelec writes this statement for the student body to understand how we arrived at a conclusion that three (3), out of the 687 (six hundred eighty-seven) ballots, shall be invalidated/nullified. This written statement also provides closure for the ArtSci Student Council Election, 2024-2025, as we formally announce its conclusion to you, the CAS Student Body.

On May 9, 2024, the CAS Comelec facilitated the election day for the new ArtSci student council, 2024-2025. The ballots are printed with a specific instruction that a voter must use black ink only when voting for candidates. Three ballots, out of the 687, were shaded with blue ink. Thus, as agreed upon by the Commission, the majority decided that we invalidate the said ballots, on the basis that it was specifically stated on the instructions of the ballots to use only black ink when voting, and those particular students did not ask properly to the Commissioners that was present during their voting time. This resulted in only 684 of the total number of votes remaining valid and shall be the basis for the 60% or votes that must be garnered by the candidates.

To also make it clear to the student body, as stated in the SLSU CAS Comelec Constitution and By-Laws Article XXVI, Section 2:

As stated in the SLSU Federal COMELEC Constitution and By-Laws, there shall be no re-election procedures in local council elections thus, appointments from the executive position shall be considered when prescribed by their commission on appointment.

With that aside, we formally conclude the ArtSci Student Council Elections, 2024-2025. The Commission would like to express their warmest gratitude towards the CAS Student Body, for your support during the local council elections. We thank you for your cooperation with us during this electoral procedure, with hopes aligned with us for the change of tracks within the student council. The class representatives, the program representatives, the outgoing ArtSci Student Council, and The Wisdom, we appreciate your efforts from the first day of this electoral procedure until its conclusion.

It has come to end, CAS Dragons, but this is merely the beginning of a new administration, and you shall remain vigilant on what direction the ArtSci Student Council will take from this day forth. May this document find you well with hopes that you read from start to finish.

Re-Opening!!!

We are officially re-opening the Filing of Certificate of Candidacies for the position of Vice Governor. You may submit your requirements starting now until April 23. Furthermore, students can only aspire to run for the Vice Governor position if they are a 2nd year or 3rd year student of the College of Arts and Sciences, as per the Constitution and By-Laws of the CAS Comelec.

In addition to the original set of requirements, the aspiring candidates shall prepare a presentation (PPT or Canva) of their CV, Mission, Vision, Platforms, and GPOA. These shall be ready before the next Screening Procedure.
