Ceremonial Signing of the Philippine Maritime Zones Act and Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally signs the Philippine Maritime Zones Bill and the Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Bill into two (2) laws in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace on November 8, 2024. Republic Act (RA) No. 12064 or the Philippine Maritime Zones Act aims to declare the Philippine sovereignty and defines sovereign rights over the maximum extent of its maritime zones, such as internal waters, archipelagic waters, territorial sea, contiguous zones, exclusive economic zones (EEZ) and continental shelf in compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), existing laws and treaties. Meanwhile, RA No. 12065 or the Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act complements the Philippine Maritime Zones Act in ensuring the protection of the country’s sovereignty and maritime domain by designating the routes and areas that shall be utilized and accessed by foreign military vessels and foreign registered aircraft for passage, pursuant to the UNCLOS and the Convention on International Civil Aviation or the ‘Chicago Convention’.

74th Birthday of the Philippine Marine Corps
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honors the distinguished history of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) as he leads its 74th birthday celebration at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on November 7, 2024. Carrying the theme, '74 Years of Standing Ready to Answer the Call: To Protect the Nation and Maintain To Be the Most Ready Force of the AFP,' today’s event commemorates a legacy that has endured for nearly three-quarters of a century. It also reflects the unyielding spirit of the PMC and the dauntless courage that defines every marine soldier. As part of the momentous occasion, President Marcos Jr. confers awards to eight (8) individuals and two-unit awardees who have excelled in their service to the Organization. He also leads the cake-cutting ceremony that symbolizes the PMC’s unwavering commitment to defending the nation. The PMC was established under Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Orders No. 319, effective 2 November 1950. This order authorized the creation of Alpha Company of the 1st Marine Battalion as a unit of the Philippine Naval Patrol, later known as the Philippine Navy (PN), whose aim is to create a light and hard-hitting seaborne force that strikes lawless elements along the vast coastline of the Philippine archipelago.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signs Republic Act No. 12063 or the Enterprise-Based Education and Training (EBET) Framework Act in a ceremony at the Malacañan Palace on November 7, 2024. A priority measure of the Administration pushed by President Marcos Jr., the Act aligns with the government’s efforts to strengthen, rationalize and harmonize various enterprise-based training modalities under one framework to address job-skills mismatch, emphasizes collaboration among stakeholders, and recognizes the indispensable role of the private sector in driving technical-vocational education and enterprise-based training programs or those being implemented in partnership with companies and firms. The Law will expand training opportunities for individuals who want to acquire, develop and upgrade their skills to ensure a resilient and globally competitive Filipino workforce responsive to the evolving labor market. It will also complement the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Act by synergizing the government’s efforts in solving unemployment and underemployment in the country, enhancing individual career prospects and progression, driving national growth and development, competitiveness and long-term economic sustainability in a rapidly evolving global market.

Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk and Families in Albay
As part of the government’s continuing efforts to support communities affected by recent typhoons, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the distribution of assistance to farmers, fisherfolk and families impacted by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Kristine’ at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City, Albay on 6 November 2024. The Office of the President (OP) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are set to provide PhP50 million in financial assistance to the Province of Albay as it recovers from the storm’s devastation. President Marcos Jr. personally distributes PhP10,000 each to 36 select beneficiaries representing three (3) cities and 15 municipalities in Albay; a total of 5,000 beneficiaries are set to receive the Presidential assistance. The Provinces of Camarines Sur and Albay in Region 5 were hit hardest by the combined impact of STS ‘Kristine’ and ‘Leon’, causing widespread flooding that damaged infrastructures and displaced a significant number of residents.

To jumpstart rehabilitation and recovery efforts for farmers, fisherfolk and families affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Kristine’ in Camarines Sur, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the distribution of Presidential assistance amounting to PhP10,000 each to select beneficiaries from 15 municipalities during a ceremony at the Fuerte CamSur Sports Complex in Pili, Camarines Sur on November 6, 2024. A total of 5,000 beneficiaries from the Province of Camarines Sur are set to receive financial aid worth PhP50 million from the Office of the President. On November 4, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that STS Kristine and Leon caused nearly PhP6 billion in agricultural damages, affecting 111,411 farmers and fisherfolk across 92,892 hectares of crops. The Bicol Region bore the brunt of the damage at PhP2.9 billion, with Camarines Sur at PhP1.3 billion. President Marcos Jr. declared November 4, 2024 a Day of National Mourning for the victims of STS ‘Kristine’.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads another distribution of Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk and Families affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) 'Kristine' in the Municipality of Laurel in Batangas on November 4, 2024. To aid recovery in affected communities, the Office of the President (OP) distributes financial assistance worth PhP10,000 each to 10 select farmers and fishermen from the Municipality of Laurel, as well as a check amounting to PhP10 million for the said area. In addition to the assistance provided by the national government, President Marcos Jr. leads the turnover of 200 kits containing housing materials donated by the Metrobank Foundation. Before the main program, the Chief Executive inspects the Bayuyungan Bridge — a critical structure connecting various barangays to the town — affected by a landslide during STS 'Kristine.' The inspection aims to assess the damage and discuss the plan for a sturdy reconstruction that can withstand powerful storms.
