Did you know that embracing VULNERABILITY makes you a better PUBLIC SPEAKER?
According to Dr. Brene Brown, vulnerability is defined as uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure, but it is also the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity.
Vulnerability allows you to CONNECT WITH PEOPLE. Audiences listen to speakers who they can relate to. Watch this video or enroll in Let's Talk English Learning Center's public speaking classes to learn more.
The power of vulnerability | Brené Brown Brené Brown studies human connection -- our ability to empathize, belong, love. In a poignant, funny talk at TEDxHouston, she shares a deep insight from her ...

"The problem with relying too much on textbooks is you may get better at English in theory, but not in application."
Still struggling with English after years of studying it? Maybe it's not you. Maybe it's your textbook.

LET'S PLAY SWIMMING!
Eh?
Use DO, PLAY, or GO when talking about your favorite physical activities. Check the image to know which verb goes with your favorite sport.
I hope you're finding ways to stay active! Stay safe and safe home!
Have you created your own sunshine? Or have you stirred up a storm lately?
For those who need a pick me up in this time of uncertainty, I invite you to read the article I wrote on my LinkedIn page. Hopefully this helps in keeping your thoughts in check, and living (not just surviving) today.

Shine bright learners!
Ever wondered why it's "Jesus is risen" and not "Jesus has risen"?
The word "risen" is used as an adjective (much like "The dough is risen.") here rather than a past participle. The statement being in its present form also signifies that He is an eternal truth - He remains risen.
I hope you still remember your verb tenses! Stay safe and stay at home!
May you have a blessed Good Friday with your loved ones.
Stay home, stay safe, stay in prayer. 🙏
To people who might be interested in LIFE COACHING in this difficult time:
One of my students just passed her life coaching training and she's looking for parents or students who might be interested in being coached. Life coaching helps by focusing on the present: the sessions center on reflecting on who you are and what you can do IN THE MOMENT to help you reach your life goals.
She's looking for 6 clients, 12 sessions each. This is a paid service, since her organization requires it, but at a hugely discounted rate because she's my student. :)
Please send me a message if you're interested. This is a great time to create a plan for yourself once this pandemic is over.
Remember to put a stop to that thought when writing! Use CONJUNCTIONS or PUNCTUATION MARKS to avoid RUN-ON sentences.

We're on day 15 learners! Have you learned something new with all the extra time you have? Other than conducting my online classes, I've also been busy signing up for webinars to learn new things and help pass the time.
I joined Enderun's free webinar on "What Makes Online Learning Work in the Time of COVID19?" on March 26th. Educators, school owners and techpreneurs joined the talk. It was very interesting to hear about the challenges experienced by students and teachers in making the shift to online learning and what we can do to eliminate these barriers. My takeaway is always be prepared - have a contingency plan for study and work so our lives would be minimally disrupted if ever a lockdown happens again.
Hope you can share what you've learned so far in this quarantine experience! Let's keep on looking at the positives and lift each others' spirits up! Hang in there!
I feel blessed to have positive and enthusiastic learners in this time of crisis. My 12-year-old student from Korea, once a shy, almost silent learner, is now an energetic, curious and expressive young man. We focused on his GRAMMAR and SENTENCE STRUCTURE while talking about his home and neighborhood. We also ended the class by doing a short SHOW AND TELL activity about his favorite person at home.
Online classes are a good way to forget what's happening in the world even just for a few hours. We, teachers, can be your friends too and help you in this time of uncertainty.
Hope to talk to more of you soon! Stay safe and stay home!
Time to get up and move!
Just because we're all confined to our homes doesn't mean that we should just lay in bed and wait for all this to be over. Take advantage of numerous free online workout classes available right at this moment. This way, you get to learn how to DESCRIBE PROCESSES or GIVE DIRECTIONS in English. This will also challenge your listening comprehension and help you learn new vocabulary.
Have a great week learners!
How is everyone doing on day 5 of the quarantine? I'm hoping you still have your inspiration up. It can be a struggle for some of us to be positive in difficult times like this and so I read books to keep myself motivated. This page is from Roger Fritz's Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained.
Read any book that interests you. This can help you pass the time and learn vocabulary, storytelling and expressing opinions. If you like audio books, that can also help you with your listening skills and accent and pronunciation.
Stay safe and stay home. Hang in there. We'll make it through.
LEARNING ENGLISH IN THE TIME OF CO-VID19
How can we continue learning English in this time of confusion, disruption and social distancing? Things might not be the same for the meantime, but there are many ways on how you can learn and practice your English skills AT HOME.
Tip 1: Listen to podcasts made by native English speakers
A lot of us forget that LISTENING is an important communication skill. Test your listening skills by listening for the gist and details when you listen to your favorite podcasts. You can also improve your accent and pronunciation by imitating how they speak. To enrich your vocabulary, list down words you don't understand and look it up on the dictionary. Challenge yourself too by using these words in a sentence.
More tips to come and so please LIKE this page! Stay safe and stay at home everyone!
STUDYING ONLINE has never been this timely.
I honestly prefer having my one-on-one learners take online classes with me. With the current situation here in the Philippines, studying online saves you time and energy (no traffic!), money (no transportation and lunch expenses) and lessens your risk of getting ill from the virus. There are hardly any class cancellations too... because of the things I just mentioned above. 😊

It was a pleasure to give a talk on TAKING RISKS and BEING YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL at Maxim Integrated's event today, March 9, 2020. I shared my personal story of taking risks and overcoming fear in my quest to find a life path authored by me, and not anyone else's.
"Take risks and be an individual. You are at your most productive when you are your own person."
Happy International Women's Day!
Might be a good way to practice English, but MINUS THE LAUGHING.
It's okay to make mistakes as long as you get the message across. Use ENGLISH AS A TOOL TO COMMUNICATE, not as a way to make fun of others.
Keep on practicing English learners!
Dapat English
Natatawa ako pagnag-aaway sila mama at papa.

I hope everyone's having a restful Sunday! Just got out of a Yin Yoga class in this pic. I may be a teacher, but I've always loved being a student more. I take dance, yoga and stretching classes regularly to keep my body and mind sharp.
What self-improvement classes have you been taking lately? Feel free to share in the comments section.
Stay curious and keep on learning!
Another look at one of my online classes:
My learner wants to go to university here in the Philippines. She's taking Conversational English classes to make her adept in conversing to future teachers and classmates.
In this class, we talked about the weather. Notice how I highlighted specific vocabulary I wanted her to learn. We then talked about the article to see if she understood it and if she had similar experiences before. Finally, I encouraged her to use the said vocabulary in telling her stories.
New studies have shown that giving lectures on vocabulary and grammar is not effective. ENGAGING, STUDYING then APPLYING are the components needed for TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION.

Excited for a speaking engagement this March! In celebration of International Women's Day, I will be giving a talk on stereotypes women face at work and how to overcome them. I feel honored to have been invited to speak and share my personal experiences on this subject.
PUBLIC SPEAKING is one of the most difficult skills to master. FEAR usually takes over and stops us from achieving our greatest potential. But through continued education, practice and dedication, you can be the CONFIDENT YOU who you've always dreamed of.

I always start my corporate training by establishing house rules. My first one is "Make this room a safe space for everyone to make mistakes. Be supportive of one another."
I say this because Filipinos commonly lack confidence in speaking because they are afraid of getting ridiculed when making grammatical mistakes. I assure my learners that it's okay - making mistakes actually speed up the learning process.
STARTING WITH THE RIGHT MINDSET helps learners RELAX AND SPEAK MORE. Speaking more in turn builds confidence. BOOK your FREE 15 min SKYPE CHAT to know more about the online, group and corporate classes I teach. Call or text (63) 917-5299039 or leave me a message here on Facebook.
Here's a glimpse of what I've been teaching in one of my one-on-one online classes:
My learner wants to become a professional Life Coach someday. The language barrier has been a problem in her coaching sessions because it affects the effectiveness of her questioning skills. In this class, I challenged her to rephrase some common questions asked by life coaches by encouraging her to use simpler and more familiar words to her and her client.
This is what's great about ONE-ON-ONE CLASSES: the discussions are more FOCUSED, PERSONAL and CUSTOMIZED.
