OmniPay, Inc. is thankful to the Philippine Eagle Foundation for taking such good care of its adopted eagle, Gavra Maslog. Gavra Maslog was introduced to a female eagle named “Mayumi” this breeding season. They were housed in adjacent duplex enclosures with a partition that allowed them to see each other while at the same time kept them safe from any territorial aggressions. For over two months of close observations, there were no aggression between the birds. Instead, they have been perching side by side with only a partition screen between them. The eagles quickly progressed to becoming a pair. Gavra Maslog was eager to be near Mayumi. He entered her enclosure through the opened portion of the partition. Initially, Mayumi was wary of him. But soon enough they’ve been observed perched near each other without any untoward behavior. Gavra is now sexually mature at about 6-7 years old. On the other hand, Mayumi is about 15-16 years old and has produced two eaglets with his previous mates. Gavra Maslog is healthy and fit. He consumes his daily food ration of 300 grams white rat, rabbit, and goat meat alternately. Gavra is also quick to catch his live prey during weekly hunting enrichment activities.
Thank-you to the Philippine Eagle Foundation for taking excellent care of our adopted eagle, Gavra Maslog. Gavra Maslog is likely to be male since he was aggressive towards the other male eagle in a pairing attempt. They have since been separated and Gavra is now by himself in another enclosure. Now that he is sexually mature, Gavra Maslog’s build and weight also suggest that he is a male. The PEF keeper noticed that Gavra is wary and would not eat during feeding until he is left alone. This is the natural behavior of an eagle from the wild. This makes Gavra an ideal candidate for natural pairing. PEF already has a prospective female to introduce to him next breeding season.
