"Successful 2nd Semester General Assembly of the College of Law"
The College of Law, Law Students' Society recently hosted the 2nd Semester General Assembly on January 29, 2024, at the University Auditorium. The event was a resounding success, bringing together students, the LSS Adviser, Atty. Ana Bonita, and the esteemed College Dean, Atty. Ophelia Pilar E. Rubio-Zamora.
During the assembly, fruitful discussions took place regarding the Academic Policies and Calendar of Activities for the semester, laying a strong foundation for the months ahead. The event also provided a platform for collaboration and support, with representatives from the CITL, Data Center, and Registrar's Office joining to explain the various services available to students. Their presence facilitated an open dialogue, allowing students to gain valuable insights and seek clarifications on pertinent matters.
The assembly set a positive tone for the semester ahead and was truly informative and productive. It highlighted the importance of working together, supporting one another, and striving for excellence in all endeavors.

We are thrilled to share that our very own Dean, Atty. Sherrymae O. Velos-Decang, was recently invited by the United Nations to New York City, USA! From November 21 to December 10, 2023, she joined a prestigious group of legal experts and educators from the Philippines to discuss the legal perspectives on Indigenous Peoples in our country, with a special focus on the Indigenous Peoples in Bukidnon.
This incredible opportunity allowed Dean Velos-Decang to showcase the legal developments and best practices of the BukSU College of Law on the international stage. It's a remarkable achievement for both our institution and the entire country!
During her visit, Dean Velos-Decang also had the privilege of touring some of the world's top law schools, including Harvard University, Fordham University, New York University School of Law, and many more. Her experiences are sure to inspire revolutionary changes within our College of Law, elevating our standards to a global level.

The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) will be visiting Bukidnon State University (BukSU) to hold an orientation on their esteemed legal internship program for the law students. This year, Ms. Toni Rose Sualan, a graduating law student from BukSU, has been fortunate enough to secure a spot in this highly sought-after internship program. This achievement has opened the doors of opportunity for other aspiring law students at BukSU to gain a once-in-a-lifetime experience by being accepted into the OSG's internship program.
The orientation session is scheduled to take place on December 4, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the Bukidnon State University Mini-theater. This event promises to provide valuable insights and information about the OSG's internship program, enabling attendees to better understand the benefits and opportunities it offers.
The best Legal Internship Program in the country is now accepting applications for June-July 2024 โ๏ธ

Who is eligible to take the BukSU College of Law Admission Exam?
1. Graduates of any 4 or 5-year baccalaureate degree programs;
2. College students expected to complete their degrees before August 2024;
3. Individuals seeking to transfer from other law schools to BukSU COL;
4. Students who have taken a leave of absence (LOA) for more than two years; and
5. Previous examinees who successfully passed the BukSU COL Admission Exam but were unable to enroll in the immediate Academic Year.
If you fall under any of these categories, we encourage you to take the opportunity and pursue your legal aspirations at BukSU College of Law. Good luck on your journey! ๐๐

1. Is it possible to transfer to BukSU College of Law for the second semester of A.Y. 2023-2024?
Answer: Unfortunately, no. BukSU College of Law does not admit transferees during the Second Semester.
2. Do I need to take admission exams if I plan to transfer to BukSU College of Law?
Answer: Yes, it is a mandatory requirement. All transferees and returnees without a filed Leave of Absence (LOA) must complete the admission exams before continuing their legal studies at BukSU College of Law.
3. Are those who already passed the admission exams last year but were not able to enroll still required to retake the admission exams?
Answer: Yes. They are required to retake the admission exams. They will not be allowed to enroll for the next School Year, 2024-2025, without having to go through the exam process again.
4. Is there any required General Weighted Average (GWA) to be allowed to take the admission exams?
Answer: None. The GWA requirement has been waived. There is no longer a GWA requirement to be eligible to take the admission exams.

BUKSU PRESIDENT IS AWARDED WITH PHILIPPINE RESILIENCE AWARD FOR WOMEN
The National Resilience Council bestowed Bukidnon State University (BukSU) President, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, with the Philippine Resilience Award for Women in recognition of her outstanding leadership and dedication to addressing climate and disaster challenges in the Philippines.
Dr. Mirasol was among the select group of ten distinguished awardees recognized for their exceptional contributions to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation in the country during the awarding ceremony held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on October 12, 2023.
The Philippine Resilience Awards is a pioneering program that celebrates and promotes the exceptional resilience-building efforts of local leaders across the country. Its primary objective is to recognize and honor champions of resilience in various sectors and communities.

Atty. James M. Violon, a distinguished member of the College of Law faculty, achieved a remarkable victory by securing 1st Place in a 3-minute Pitch Competition during the 6th Regional Health Research Conference organized by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, held from October 10 to 12, 2023.
Atty. Violon's winning research entry, titled "Sawaga River's Curse: The Violation of the Residents' Right to Health through Waterborne Diseases," was co-authored with the esteemed Dean of the College of Law, Atty. Sherrymae O. Velos-Decang, and the esteemed Director of the Herbarium and Botanical Gardens, Dr. Lesley C. Lubos.
This accomplishment not only stands as a significant milestone for the College of Law but also demonstrates our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, particularly in the field of health research. It is a source of pride and inspiration for our academic community.
Atty. Violon's achievement now paves the way for him to qualify for the National Health Research Conference scheduled for the coming year at Caraga State University in Butuan City. This is a testament to his dedication and the quality of research produced by our institution.

Bukidnon State University-College of Law takes a significant step towards community empowerment and legal advocacy as it engages in a productive meeting with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) of Malaybalay City. Together, it aims to establish a strong partnership for the implementation of the 'Social Accountability and Legal Empowerment: A Capability Development Program on VAWC for Barangay LGUs.' This initiative, headed by Atty. Ophelia Pilar Rubio-Zamora as Project Leader and supervising lawyer, in partnership with Ms. Ivy Urbina of CSWDO, Ms. Amalia Propia of DILG, and 4th year Law student practitioners, holds immense benefits for law student practitioners, as it offers invaluable hands-on experience and a platform to apply their legal knowledge to real-world situations.
At the community level, it fosters awareness and empowerment, helping to combat Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC). For Bukidnon State University, this partnership strengthens its commitment to community engagement and experiential learning, reinforcing its role as a hub for knowledge and societal progress.
Simultaneously, it supports the goals of the Local Government Unit (LGU) and DILG, contributing to the development of more accountable, inclusive, and just communities. Together, we are forging a brighter future for our region, rooted in legal empowerment and social accountability."

The BukSU Law Journal successfully conducted the first ever "Career Talk with BukSU COL Alumni" at the LPT Hall, Bukidnon National High School on the evening of September 19, 2023. The invited guests included BukSU's finest: Atty. Marco R. Hinlo, Atty. Jenny G. Uplinger, CPA, Atty. Alfredo G. Cape, Jr., RN, Atty. Francis Jovilou E. Visitacion, Atty. Vicar Loureen G. Lofranco, and Atty. Richard P. Lusica. This event was hosted by Atty. Ophelia Pilar Rubio Zamora and Ms. Erica Thea Gale Dizon. Present in this event are Dean Atty. Sherrymae O. Velos-Decang, Atty. James M. Violon, Atty. Von Derek B. Santoninio, and Atty. Anna R. Bonita.
The night was filled with laughter, wisdom, and inspiration as the guests shared how they hurdled the mountain that is law school. They also shared tidbits on how they passed the Bar Examination and their experiences in the legal profession. In the end, they expressed their gratitude and appreciation towards Bukidnon State University for bringing the study of law to the province.
BukSU law students had the honor to interact with their predecessors, by asking questions that arenโt usually taught inside their classrooms. Ultimately, the evening was certainly nothing short of spectacular.
