Working on this semi-customizable wedding invitation suite I call Baguio. I am excited to finish it and print a sample ✨ When I design my invitations, my priority is not just the aesthetics but the function. Printing and packaging materials can be costly, so I want my client's every expense be justified and worth it. :)

It's my third wedding illustration! I did not get this right the first try 😂 I had to put off the work for a while because I can't decide what environment to put them in. But when I finally made the background, I imagined fireflies slowly waking up from their slumber ✨

It brought me back to a magical moment! I was in a remote barangay in Mt. Province, spending the night there after a tiring climb in Mt. Amuyao. I was standing in front of giant old trees at dusk. One by one, fireflies began to glow. Hundreds of them were flying around the trees, looking like stars in the dark. It was so beautiful. 🥺

I tried to evoke the same feeling I had then in this work 💛 Did you feel it?

It’s been about a year since the pandemic happened. It is definitely one of the hardest years in my life. So I am glad to be surrounded with friends who were able to make great things happen despite the pandemic. I started to treat the Mistakes Factory as something more than a passion project because of their inspiring stories. ✨ Cheers to everyone trying to achieve their goals despite Covid 🥂YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING 💛

My first commissioned work this valentines. When I was booked to do this, I was instantly reminded of my a work I did last year, at around the same month. I am grateful for my friends for appreciating my work and seeing it as a thoughtful gift to newly weds. I hope this new couple loved the illustration. I put everything I love in it. There’s light, texture, and bits of details I added so that when you zoom in the photo the bride’s make up is on point and her nails are polished 😂 💛✨

A lot of illustrations coming out this month. I just finished my first Valentine’s commission last night. I’ll be working on the next one soon. 🤗Should I post my art process?

No. 1: Using the 2021 MUJI Philippines Planner

Since the Starbucks Planners became a thing, I think many of you also have a "Planner Journey.” It's either you learned that using a one is not for you or you figured out what works best for you.

After years of trying out planners, I decided it is the smallest one from Muji that I want to carry around all year this 2021. Two main reasons: size and layout.

It’s small enough to fit in my tiny errands bag and is designed well to function as a planner. It has all the spreads you need: a year overview, monthly spreads, weekly spreads, and extra blank sheets. Best of all, it is customizable. They left most of the headers blank but made sure to have dates written down. You can draw the monthly headers or add stickers if you want.

I am customizing mine by adding stickers at the front and back cover pages. I also added a recycled folder as a bookmark and post-it note tab, where I put random reminders I don’t want permanently etched in my planner. I also incorporated the BUJO system when I am writing down plans and notes.

I guess with the small planner I got this year, I'll be able to fill it from cover to cover. So how about you? What planner did you get?

While on ECQ, one thing that we didn’t completely lose is the freedom to cook the food we want to eat. So I cooked everything that I can cook and wanted to cook before. Having more time to make food for myself and my family is something I greatly appreciate at this time.

Counting Stars

With the current state of the world, we lost the freedom to do some of the things we used to take for granted — like the ease of buying groceries anytime we want.

Now we are stuck in our homes, trying to find the light.

Me, I decided to try doing creative things. Sans the pressure of pleasing people but myself. The kind of creativity that we all used to have as early as we were one. Making scribbles on walls with anything that could color. A pen lying on the floor. Your mom’s lipstick. Broken Crayolas. Having that innocent sense of freedom to try new things.

When I was young without any idea of what really is art, I used to steal A LOT of bond papers from my sisters’ school supplies 😂. I so love BLANK sheets of paper for drawing. Then I would take my little brother‘s book and copy my favorite characters. Cute talking animals in colorful clothes.

I followed the same process for this work, except taking things from my siblings. I started with blank sheet in Procreate using my trusty ipad, and used a photo from Pinterest as my reference.

This work is not perfect, but it made me feel hopeful. And that’s enough for me.
