United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) re-engaged Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) under the 8th Country Programme in 2019 until 2023. The ZFF-UNFPA partnership program is known as the Youth Leadership and Governance Program (YLGP). YLGP is a capacity- building initiative aimed at realizing the full potential of young people through leadership development for participation in local governance. The program was piloted in ten municipalities from 3 provinces – Sarangani (Malapatan, Maitum and Malungon), Sultan Kudarat (Columbio and Kalamansig) and Lanao del Sur (Balindong, Kapatagan, Masiu, Piagapo, Taraka).
The program trained youth leaders and core group members were guided by a technical roadmap aligned to UNFPA’s strategic framework on adolescent health and development in improving their respective ASRH systems and service delivery that will eventually contribute in achieving reduction adolescent pregnancies.
In the implementation of YLGP, the 10 SK leaders have improved their bridging leadership competencies and demonstrated these through the different leadership acts where significant milestones and gains were achieved in improving local youth governance, ASRH systems and services. Also, lessons were learned as the youth leaders continue to strategize and innovate to address the different challenges in achieving better health outcomes for young people.
