No one had a 2020 vision of what this year that is about to end would bring. Our experiences have been difficult but we have a lot more to be grateful for and be hopeful of this coming year. The pandemic spared no one. PLM lost some lives and some got seriously ill from the virus.
Thanks to the collective efforts of everyone - faculty, staff, students and stakeholders, PLM managed to do an early pivot towards a new order for educational institutions.
After our virtual commencement exercises with over 1,000 graduates, we re-opened, and even expanded our student population by 30%.
While not perfect, PLM opened over 2,300 virtual classrooms to welcome some 13,000 students to PLM's virtual campus. It has been difficult but we are managing the challenges.
This academic year is capped by the academic and professional achievements of our students and alumni with excellent performance in the board exams, appointments to high offices in the executive and judiciary positions.
Our commitment to corruption-free management of PLM fiscal affairs was affirmed by the Commission on Audit with an "UNMODIFIED OPINION," which serves as a source of pride of the current PLM administration.
While the country is beset with economic problems and political issues that make the pandemic even more lethal, the Filipino people are rising, not just recovering.
Yes, this year has been difficult but we have many reasons to be thankful for and be inspired to meet with great optimism what 2021 would bring to PLM and the Filipino people.
I wish everyone good health, safety and a much better year ahead!
PLM congratulates Justice Roberto Quiroz for appointment to Court of Appeals
The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila extends its warmest congratulations to Honorable Roberto Patdu Quiroz for his appointment as Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals.
Atty. Quiroz, who hails from Tarlac, is enrolled in the Master of Laws program of the PLM Graduate School of Law since the first trimester of Academic Year 2019-2020. He is currently finishing his academic requirements for the postgraduate degree.
Atty. Quiroz joined the roll of lawyers in 1997. Prior to this latest appointment, he served as presiding judge of a Regional Trial Court in the City of Manila.
“We are happy to greet yet another member of the PLM community for being appointed to a public post,” PLM President Emmanuel Leyco said. “We wish Justice Quiroz the best as he pursues excellence in serving the public interest.”
The PLM College of Law has consistently outperformed law schools in the country as it produces lawyers who contribute to nation-building.

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila wishes students, faculty, and staff a merry and meaningful Christmas!
The year 2020 has been tough on everyone, but may the members of the PLM Community draw inspiration and hope in the Nativity story. The birth of Jesus Christ was a difficult journey — it involved a long, tireless trip with challenges along the way — yet God found a way for the Virgin Mary to give birth to our Savior.
May you all have a merry Christmas and please stay safe!

PLM vows timely release of student SAP payouts for remaining distribution days
The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila vows to improve its system for on-site cash releases of the Social Amelioration Program for Students residing in the City of Manila.
PLM regrets the long lines that were generated within and outside the campus on December 16, 2020, the first day of the SAP payouts covering November and December.
The University appeals for the understanding of its students and their parents who lined up to claim SAP benefits on Wednesday as the arrival of the cash and payout staff from the city hall has been delayed. Those who showed up for their scheduled payout –– those with surnames starting with A to “Dura–” –– have been entertained as the payout teams worked extended hours.
For the next two days, PLM will stick to the previously announced schedules to avoid huge crowds and allow a smoother experience for SAP recipients.
“We regret the deviation from the original plan but we expect the Manila City Hall paymasters to start the payouts at 8 a.m. on Thursday to avoid crowding at PLM,” University President Emmanuel Leyco said.
“We also expect the SAP recipients to follow the scheduled payouts that was prepared based on the first letter of their family names. Rules will be strictly enforced tomorrow,” he added.
Strict social distancing and other minimum health standards will be enforced. Those lining up for the payouts must wear face masks and face shields at all times.
The Manila City Government's SAP provides direct aid to students who are able to present proof of residence in the city. This is different from the national government's household-based SAP during the lockdown period. For easier validation, students are encouraged to upload their requirements online through their PLM CRS accounts.
For further clarifications, students may inquire via email to [email protected].
Join us for the university's first Misa de Gallo officiated by Rev. Fr. Jumbim Torres, OSA.
This was recorded on Dec. 15, 2020 at 12:30 at the Chapel of the Divine Teacher, Pamantasan ng Lugsod ng Maynila.
