Back in 1954, Universal Genève commissioned a timepiece to commemorate Scandinavian Airline Systems' polar flights from New York/LA to Europe. The design genius behind it was a 23-year-old rookie named Gerald Genta. Little did they anticipate that this watch, the Polerouter, would mark the inception of his legendary career. Genta went on to craft iconic timepieces such as Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus, essentially defining the luxury sports watch category.
This particular example, sporting a gold capped case and a crosshair dial, perfectly encapsulates the exquisite allure of the Polerouter.

Cartier Tank with a column dial configuration 👌 the watchmaker's four (usually written as IIII) is absent on this watch, and is instead written as IV. This is due to the unique vertical layout which strikes the perfect balance and symmetry, hence not having the need to write the 'IIII' ❤️

We’ve been able to offer a ton of vintage Air-Kings over the years, mostly with the reference 5500 that came with a smooth bezel. That is why we were thrilled when we encountered this ref. 5501 – a rare bird amongst vintage Air-Kings, specifically due to its unusual solid gold fluted bezel and the absence of the word “Precision” above 6. It makes for a balanced piece – can be worn from the board room to the board walk. A solid find brought to you at the Finery. 😊

It's a vintage Rolex, a rare possession that offers a lifetime of enjoyment and can be handed down to the next generation to continue the tradition. Its enduring appeal lies in its simple yet impeccably executed design and functionality; after all, true quality remains timeless. Whether it's the silver sunburst dial, rare "big block" hour markers, or the iconic steel Oyster case, this Rolex Oyster Perpetual exudes a timeless charm.
One of the enticing deals in the world of vintage Rolexes is on a little watch known as the Rolex Oyster reference 6426.
It's a vintage Rolex stripped down to the basics and won't break the bank: a 34mm Oyster case, silver dial, and a manual-wind movement.
On the wrist, it feels a tad slimmer than vintage automatic Rolexes. With a 42mm lug-to-lug and 19mm lug width, some argue that the Oyster case wears larger than modern 34mm Oyster Perpetuals.
While the ref. 6426 isn't exactly a scarce find, it also hasn't faded into complete obscurity. After all, it is a Rolex. It's the perfect pick for anyone dipping their toes into the world of vintage Rolexes. Your watch does not have to be a unicorn, a rare bird; it just needs to be fun and wearable. Starting out in vintage Rolex doesn't need to be expensive or confusing, and the Rolex Ref. 6426 is a solid proof of that.
While Omega's De Ville line is usually tamed in design due to their dressy nature, this piece takes on a funky twist with its rare tapestry dial. The vertical stripes catches the light beautifully, and adds tremendous character to this dressy piece. And with a black cabochon crown, to boot.
Small watches have never been cooler. The epitome of "quiet luxury" – timepieces that don't scream for attention. Subtle, sexy, and sleek. 😎

In the 1930s, a group of British Army officers would frequent a game of polo in India. Polo is a ball game played while mounted on a horse. With each player using a mallet, the aim is to hit a small hard ball until it goes in the opposing team’s goal. The game is brutal and aggressive, and individuals who wore a watch while playing almost always got it destroyed. The officers then approached a local watch dealer with their request for a watch that can withstand harsh physical activities, the dealer subsequently approached Jaeger S.A. to fulfill the order, and alas, the iconic Reverso was born.

In the 1970s, as the quartz crisis challenged traditional watchmaking, Cartier chose to adapt to the changing landscape by introducing the Must de Cartier line. This line was designed to be more accessible to a wider audience while still retaining the iconic aesthetic Cartier was known for. The name 'Must de Cartier' was inspired by the idea that owning a piece of Cartier was a 'must.'
The Must de Cartier Tank models, introduced during this period, were typically crafted in vermeil - sterling silver coated with gold - which offered a more affordable alternative to the traditional solid gold models. This was a bold and innovative move that allowed Cartier to maintain their reputation for luxury, while opening up to a broader market.
Another change made was the unconventionally designed dials, straying from the classic white or cream dials of traditional Tank models. This choice was a reflection of the adventurous and vibrant spirit of the 1970s, and it is shown in the Must Tank featured today, which exhibits a unique "tiger eye" dial.
One of the best sellers at our webshop over the years. The iconic Datejust. The "piepan" or "doorstop" dial (i.e. the downward sloping outer edges) adds depth to the piece and has a certain vintage charm. You will only find these in 4-digit references (1601, 1603, etc). From the 5-digit references up to the modern ones, all dials were made flat.
