To cap off Pride Month and The National HIV Testing Day last June 27, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Manila Social Hygiene Clinic and Treatment Hub for providing FREE HIV Testing services to Benildeans from June 26-27. We genuinely appreciate your unending support and willingness to within schools and communities! 🥰

To all Benildeans who were unable to get tested, don’t worry! HIV Testing Centers like Manila Social Hygiene Clinic and Treatment Hub, both within and outside Metro Manila, are available and ready to provide free testing services!

On Dec. 1, we commemorate World AIDS Day to express our support for raising awareness and fighting for the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV), as well as remember those who have lost their lives battling it.

This year, World AIDS Day is celebrated through the theme, “Let Communities Lead,” highlighting how important HIV-affected communities, individuals, and youth leaders are in the movement. Let us continue spreading the word, honor those affected, and push for prevention, support, and research in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

Museum of Contemporary Art and Design. with Benilde Arts Management and Benilde Hive, is proud to partner with Visual AIDS for Day With(out) Art 2023 by presenting "Everyone I Know Is Sick," a program of five videos generating connections between HIV and other forms of illness and disability.

The program features newly commissioned work by Dorothy Cheung (Hong Kong), Hiura Fernandes & Lili Nascimento (Brazil), Beau Gomez (Canada/Philippines), Dolissa Medina & Ananias P. Soria (USA), and Kurt Weston (USA).

Inspired by a statement from Cyrée Jarelle Johnson in the book Black Futures, "Everyone I Know Is Sick" examines how our society excludes disabled and sick people by upholding a false dichotomy of health and sickness. Inviting us to understand disability as a common experience rather than an exception to the norm, the program highlights a range of experiences spanning HIV, COVID, mental health, and aging. The commissioned artists foreground the knowledge and expertise of disabled and sick people in a world still grappling with multiple ongoing pandemics.

MCADxMovingImage marks World AIDS Day with a screening of Visual AIDS's Day With(out) Art 2023: Everyone I Know Is Sick, a collection of short videos that generate connections between HIV and other forms of illnesses and disabilities. Communities come together on Nov. 20 to commemorate International Transgender Day of Remembrance, a sign of respect to transgender and gender nonconforming individuals who were killed—often brutally—for questioning conventional notions of what it means to be male or female or to identify as something else.

It is a day to not only honor the lives of those we have lost but to also help spread awareness about the ongoing discrimination and stigma this community faces and take action to address it.

Transphobia is real. Transphobia is scary. But we can stand together and fight to completely abolish it.

Stand tall for our trans siblings! There is no pride for some of us until there's freedom for all of us!

UP PRIDE 2023 UNITY STATEMENT 🏳️‍⚧️🤍🏳️‍🌈

Noong 2008, unang ipinagdiwang ang UP Pride sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Diliman. Nagsimula ito sa maliit na pagpapanawagan ng mga miyembro ng LGBTQI community sa campus upang ihayag sa mundo ang kanilang mga sarili. Hindi nila inakalang ang mga tsinelas at sapatos nilang putikan ay mag-iiwan ng mga bakas para sa mga susunod sa kanila.

Ngayong ipinagdiriwang na sa buong UP System ang UP Pride, pinangungunahan pa rin ito ng komunidad ng mga LGBTQI na mag-aaral. Kasama’t kaagapay rin dito ang administrasyon ng unibersidad. Malayo na ang narating ng mga tagumpay ng UP Pride, pero malayo pa ang mga tagumpay na kailangan makamit tungo sa pagkakapantay-pantay.

Sa pamamagitan ng sama-samang lakas ng mga opisina’t organisasyon sa loob at labas ng unibersidad, mas lalong lumalakas at tumitingkad ang mga kulay ng UP Pride. Sa pagpapalawak ng ating mga hanay, pinapatibay nito ang ating pangakong pagkakapantay-pantay. Sa labang ito, kasama ang UP Pride mula noon, hanggang ngayon.

Dahan-dahan, paisa-isang hakbang, nakakamit na ng UP Pride ang ibang mga tagumpay at pagbabagong una nitong itinaguyod sa loob ng unibersidad. Gayunpaman, tinatawag pa rin tayo ng laban sa labas ng ating mga silid-aralan.

Bilang mga iskolar ng at para sa bayan, sama-sama nating ipamalas ang lakas ng dangal at husay tungo sa pagkakapantay-pantay.

Tungo sa bukas na pantay, ligtas, at malaya.
Tungo sa bukas na matagal na nating inaasam.
Tungo sa bukas na malapit nang maging ngayon.

On this very day in 1996, professor Morgan Holmes and activist Max Beck, along with the Intersex Society of North America, held the first-ever public demonstration outside a medical conference to protest against unwanted cosmetic surgeries to "fix" intersex children.

Intersex Awareness Day, we celebrate the beauty of uniqueness. Intersex individuals are born with a variety of biological characteristics, challenging traditional gender norms. 💖

Thus, we do not have any more commitments from and to UP JMA. UP Pride 2023 will continue being a safe space to champion our calls for freedom and equality.

October 14 marks the commemoration of the first National March for Gay and Le***an rights which happened in Washington, DC. The first National March in 1979 gathered almost 125,000 members of the q***r community as they pushed for equal civil rights under the US legislation. 🌈
