But first, what is National Awareness Month, and why do we celebrate it?🤔

➣ RA 9512, also known as the National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, states that the state shall promote national awareness, especially among youths, of the role of natural resources in economic growth and the importance of environmental conservation and ecological balance towards sustained national development.

➣ RA 9512 also declared November as the National Environmental Awareness Month. That's why every month of November is celebrated in the Philippines to promote appreciation for our nature and environment!

𝗧𝗔𝗔𝗟 𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗢 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘!

As of September 21, 2023, The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) observed that the Taal Volcano in Batangas has been omitting smog and sulfur dioxide.

Smog or vog is a mixture of fog and smoke. Additionally, it can affect our health, depending on gas concentrations and the duration of exposure. Smog can irritate the eyes, throat, and respiratory system to varying degrees of severity.

Do not fret, because as your eco-savers, we 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

To stay safe, it is advised to:

1. Limit your exposure outside and 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 as much as possible. If necessary, shut your doors and windows to prevent the vog from coming inside your houses!
2. 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗸! If possible, wear a N95 facemask.
3. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱. Drink plenty of water to prevent irritation in the throat.
4. 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 from a 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 if serious effects from the vog are experienced.
5. Lastly, 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 with the situation to be aware of the status of the vog in your location.

PHILVOCS has kept Taal Volcano at Alert Level 1. However, it is with utmost importance for us to remain safe amidst the current situation. 🌱

In celebration of "International Day of Forests", MariSci YES-O held a poster-making event among its members following the theme “Forests and sustainable production and consumption”. The organization would like to share our member's creative side with the posters that they made. Let's look at them!

The International Day of Forests takes place on March 21. It is celebrated around the world with tree-planting activities. There are discussions on climate change and mitigation as well. Its celebration is marked with art, photo, and film events to raise awareness of the importance of forests worldwide.

The webinar titled “Roles of the Youth: Protectors of the Forests” will teach students about their roles in saving our forests. For the speaker of the coming webinar, we invited Kuya Andre’ Socorro Doria. Kuya Dre’ is an Alumni and Member of the Association of Young Environmental Journalists or AYEJ. The Association of Young Environmental Journalists (AYEJ) is a youth-led environmental non-profit working to engage and educate civil society on environmental sustainability through youth development and media training. Come join us this Saturday, March 26, 2022, as we discuss the roles of the youth as active protectors of the forests.

Today, we celebrate the “International Day of Forests”! This event was established by the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the current situation of our forests not just in our country, but all over the world. It can be celebrated through different means like tree-planting activities, poster making, and even webinars. This will help remind people how important our forests are and why we should take care of it. Join us as we celebrate this event and look forward for the activities that our organization has prepared.
