On the table
Naked and exposed
Bright lights
Covered in cords
Legs go numb
Awake I lie
In suspense we wait
Will we hear your cry?
Pressure and tugging
They drop the drapes
As they pull you out
He’s here! They shout
I see you through a plastic sheet
a surreal feeling to finally meet
As they start to stitch me up
A chest pain so intense
They lay your head beside mine
a love so immense
To NICU
They whisk you away
Arms empty
Just wish you could stay
Eager to come see you
I faint to the floor
My body just couldn’t take any more
The following days
I cry out in pain
Feeling as if I’ll never be the same
But such a beautiful scar
To remind me how
ive come so far
