Sometimes the smallest and simplest details create the biggest impact.

As in the case of this closet, the door handles made the biggest difference. Had we used a different handle, the appeal and feel would have been entirely different.

P.S. Best if the handle was used throughout the full length of the closet😉😍

Our attempt at revamping a special home for kids😍

Why do you need your Architect to be on board even during the project's construction period? Because many things can happen; and you need him, including all other allied professionals who helped you plan your dream house, to troubleshoot day to day problems on-site.

These photos show two different design solutions on the same project. The first, showing a straight run of stairs, was the original design approved for construction.

For some reason, as construction progressed, the stairs' configuration had to be changed, even after its structure was already in place. It was a challenging puzzle to solve given various limitations; but a pleasing solution was finally arrived at: the bridge design.

Yes, things like these happen. As long as you are honest with your Architect about what you want, as well as with your challenges, there is always, always a design solution. Kakampi mo ang iyong Arkitekto😊.

Porte Cochère: A porch, or roof without walls over a driveway, next to the entrance of a building which a vehicle can stop in or under to allow passengers to embark or disembark without being affected by bad weather. —-Wikipedia

Pag nagbababa sa awto saka mauran, dai ka sisibuton magbukas payong😅. So if you have the space and a little budget to spare for a porte cochère, think of having one😉. Talk to your architect how this can be seamlessly integrated into your house design😊.

We say, it is actually more satisfying (albeit extra challenging😅) to be able to produce sound, aesthetically pleasing and effectively functional structures given limited client resources. This is the goal. May we always build this way🙏🏻.

Be the “architect your parents would want to hire”. This will forever ring in my ears.

As architects, we should view success as being able to cater to the masses. Don't aspire to cater to just the rich. I know the fee and the freedom to design without limits is tempting. I also know that ego is a big driving force.

Don't be just like the starchitects you look up to who design houses in Forbes park and Alabang, or buildings in Makati and BGC. Will you call yourself successful just because your clientele is the wealthy or celebrities? A lot of us define success this way. This is why people think that the architect is out of reach, only for the rich.

Instead, define your success by helping the people who are truly in need. Test your skills with limited resources, test your understanding by explaining to people who have difficulty understanding. Serve the middle class, the masses. Offer pro bono once in a while.

I am talking to you, a young architect who came from a simple, middle class household. Stop aspiring to be hired by the wealthy, we already have architects for that. Become what the people need. Repay your parents by becoming an architect your parents would want to hire. Just as we are taught to design for accessibility, we too should be accessible to the public.

Owners originally wanted a single storey bungalow. We had fun exploring their requirements and presented a two-storey bonus option. And you know what happened next☺️
