Advent's here and we can most certainly feel the chill in the air and jolly mood of everyone. You feel that too? Well, Christmas is just around the corner and before we know it, some of you might be caught up in the rush. Before that happens, here are some GLOW UP tips to help your skin glow brighter and healthier this season!

1. Have a skincare routine that suits your skin type. The first step in creating a personalized skin care routine is knowing your skin type. Your skin type helps you select products that are tailored for what your skin needs. Here are some key indicators of each skin type:

Normal: Normal skin is generally balanced—not too dry or oily throughout the day.

Combination: Combination skin is described by having some areas of skin that are normal (or dry) and others that are oily (typically in the T-zone, which includes your nose and forehead).

Oily: Oily skin is generally characterized by shiny skin. Excess oil usually makes skin more prone to breakouts and blemishes.

Dry: Dry skin is easy to identify as it’s visibly noticeable. Dry skin can look flaky and generally feels tight and uncomfortable.

Sensitive: Sensitive skin is prone to dryness, itching, and redness. If you notice your skin is often irritated by skin care products or changes in weather, you may have sensitive skin.

Building a personalized skin care routine should be fun! After all, it’s all about finding products that are going to give you the results you want.

2. Make sure that you use gentle products only. That goes without saying that you should first conduct a skin test before trying out any product. This will not only save you money, but also save your skin. Cutting back on products - Using too many skin care products can damage the moisture barrier. The more things that come in contact with skin, the more opportunity for disrupting the skin's pH balance which leads to moisture loss and irritation.

3. This season can really put our lips to the test especially when outdoors and towards the evening. To keep it moisturized and ready for the next day, apply a non-irritating lip balm (or lip moisturizer) several times a day and before bed. If your lips are very dry and cracked, try a thick ointment, such as white petroleum jelly. Ointment seals in water longer than waxes or oils. Slather on a non-irritating lip balm with SPF 30 or higher before going outdoors.

4. Our brows, to be quite honest, is the most low maintenance part of our face. It's easiest to just wash them when you wash your face. After you apply your cleanser, gently scrub your brows. Rinse thoroughly to make sure you remove all of the product. Avoid putting too much product on your eyebrows.

5. Skin makes new collagen when you sleep, which prevents sagging. “That's part of the repair process,” says Patricia Wexler, MD, a dermatologist in New York. More collagen means skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle. Only getting 5 hours a night can lead to twice as many fine lines as sleeping 7 would. So while waiting for Christmas, as with any other regular days, make sure you get enough sleep when you can.

Serum vs Moisturizers: The Key Difference

A lot of time serums and moisturizers are used interchangeably and for good reason, because they both ensure that your skin receives enough water.

Our skin needs ample hydration to look healthy and radiant. Because in case your skin doesn't receive enough hydration, it can cause:

Dryness
Premature fine lines
Dehydration
Environmental damage

Now the difference between both products is how you define your skin.

Dry Skin: Dry skin needs oil moisture because your skin is lacking natural oils and lipids which is what causes your skin to become dry.

Dehydrated Skin: Dehydrated skin needs water or hydration because there's a lack of water in the top-most layer of the skin.

What we've uncovered is that serums are intended to pe*****te deeply into the skin because they have active ingredients. On the other side, moisturizers help to fortify your skin and help preserve the natural oil or whatever you've used before.

Furthermore, some moisturizers have larger molecules, meaning that they won't pe*****te deeply into your skin as serums.

So, the final verdict:
If you're looking for a strong effect, to fight some concerns then you should be relying on serums.
If you're looking for continuous hydrating, a moisturizer is your ultimate partner.
